The Super Mario Wiki's 'Shroom cordially invites you...[]

Hello, I am Tucayo from the Super Mario Wiki's monthly publication, The 'Shroom. As you surely know, this February marks the 30th Anniversary of the Zelda series, and we would like to prepare something special, with your help. As a landmark collaboration between our wikis, we want to invite you to write something for us, it can be a review of a Zelda game, a ranking of your favorite games in the franchise, overall thoughts or memories, or maybe even something telling our users about ZeldaWiki! It could be anything to help us make our February issue Zelda-themed. The issue will be released February 20th, so we would really appreciate if we could have your submissions before February 13th. You can email them to mwshroom@gmail.com. Feel free to contact us for any questions you might have.

Thanks!

Thanks for the invitation! Will see what can I do for it :) - Chuck * (Talk) 04:19, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Where?[]

Hello! I would really like to know where (website) did you find the biggest pic TP Princess Zelda artwork? http://zeldawiki.org/images/8/8a/TPHD_Zelda_Artwork.png I would like to have the link on the website, please --Isamisa (talk) 13:57, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi, those high quality artworks can only be found on Nintendo's Assets Library, which isn't open to the public as it is exclusive to the media press. - Chuck * (Talk) 05:35, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
Aww, that's a shame! thanks anyway! Ps. No sabía que eras de Mexico, soy Colombiana, pero me gustaría visitar Mexico algún día! --Isamisa (talk) 13:24, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
No problem! Te esperamos con los brazos abiertos si algún día decides venir :) - Chuck * (Talk) 22:32, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Corrections[]

i saw you helped and followed up on the 8-bit Power Bracelet corrections. Apparently the same is needed for Darunia's 8-bit hammer. It's really called "8-bit Food" Not bait. Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 01:23, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Done, thanks for the heads up. Let me know if there's another misnamed weapon. - Chuck * (Talk) 04:20, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

2 extra pics[]

Hey Chuck, I found out there are 2 uploads of Link in-game image from SoulCalibur II Shouldn't one get Deleted? Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 13:24, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, we actually had all of those twice, so I deleted the duplicates. Thanks for the heads up. - Chuck * (Talk) 16:58, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Compliment[]

Awesome Edit to your User page. ^w^ Very Impressive Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 02:29, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks :p - Chuck * (Talk) 03:37, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

JPG images to PNG[]

I dont know you know but it's very easy to turn JPG images to PNG if you prefer them in that format. Unless you have Photoshop, you can re-save the image with "Save As" and just put it on PNG format. However anyone of the staff does not have Photoshop, I have no problem on helping you converting the JPGs into PNGs before they are uploaded. Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 21:02, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

I do know and I do have PS which I use to work with the PSDs released by Nintendo (the big artworks when a game is released). However, converting JPGs into PNGs just like that is bad for the quality of the image, that's why we usually avoid doing it. - Chuck * (Talk) 02:00, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
So what I am doing isnt helping? Ya know when I saved the images screenshots for Breath of the Wild and did JUST that, and they still looked gorgeous? Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 03:35, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

Hyrule Warriors Move List Videos[]

Hi, Wanted to talk to u cuz I think I disturb Tony too much lol Anyway, I found a Youtuber that displays not only each Hyrule Warrior character's move list but also their animations such as opening Treasure chests. Is it ok if we credit him and display his character move videos on the Wikipedia? If not thats ok. Im just trying to be careful and not make anyone mad. Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 02:01, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

ZW is definitely not the place for advertisement. We only use official videos released by Nintendo, or in this case, Koei Tecmo. - Chuck * (Talk) 21:38, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Superfluous Gallery image?[]

I noticed that on the Hyrule Field (Stage) page the map is both in the infobox and the gallery. Should this be removed from the gallery or should it be left in as the version in the infobox is hidden by default and an interactive map? I figured it was better to ask you first rather than just removing it so it can't be rolled back because I missed something like earlier.Link Lab (talk) 21:02, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

There's really no need to have the same image twice, so feel free to remove the one in the gallery. - Chuck * (Talk) 03:47, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

A Better RAH Link pic[]

There's a PNG and BG removed pic of RAH Link figure. the JPG needs removing. Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 02:35, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

Actually no, the png version has a poorly done background removal. There are still white lines all around the figure and some parts of it (like the shield) were removed. - Chuck * (Talk) 03:47, 24 July 2016 (UTC)

Hyrule Warriors "Mask"[]

Hi, Ive came across a confusing point in the Hyrule Warriors info on Young Link's Mask link. It seems both pages of Mask and Fierce Deity's Mask both have info on weapons variations but the one of the Fierce Deity's mask page has more info than the one on the Mask. I do find it a bit confusing cuz then you are leading one link to a page with few info while the other carries more info, there for misleading the reader to a page with little knowledge. Something looks amiss here. And I dont know if it's something u people are planning or a sign on moving the info of the Weapon in the right page. Please help explain or Fix this. Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 22:03, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

The Mask page should have all the info, as technically only one of the tiers is actually called Fierce Deity's Mask, so its page should focus on that one in particular. - Chuck * (Talk) 04:14, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Hyrule Warriors Sprites Category[]

I've been looking through the Category for Hyrule Warriors Sprites and I've noticed a number of problems/inconsitencies, some of which I accidentally added to.

  1. Anything sourced from The Spriters Resource before 2016 has a broken link example
  2. Despite using mostly the same sources, the source field differs a lot between uploaders/upload time.
  3. Some sprites for Legends characters are labelled HW both in file name and in the game field. Since the assets appeared in both games at the same time, shouldn't HWS be used?
  4. Some sprites of weapons include links to the character and the weapon page in the summary, most don't. Should it be changed so that they all do?

Since these could affect hundreds of images, is this something the bots could fix (although I imagine this would be a fairly low priority) or should I start editing the files and signal an admin when a file needs moved? Link Lab (talk) 19:39, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

That's because TSR moved HW from "other systems" to "Wii U", so every link before the move is now broken. That can be easily fixed with a special tool, but sadly it isn't working right now, so that might have to wait. HWS should only be used for subjects that appeared in both games at the same time (like Medli for example). If the file's name already states what can be added to the summary, then it might not be 100% necessary to have the same info. - Chuck * (Talk) 21:30, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I'll leave the files with broken sources for now. Sorry, I wasn't clear with point 3. I was asking specifically if files for Tetra, Linkle, Toon Link, Skull Kid and King Daphnes should be marked HWS and not HW as I'm certain they were added at the same time to both? The files marked HW came from the Japanese version of the game around the time HWL was released in Japan. The files weren't added to the US version until the 1.8.0 patch that came out at the same time as HWL in the US. I've also noticed another problem with the sprites. Most of the HWL VS Icons were originally in the HW base game and it's DLC, meaning they should be marked HW. The seven for the Legends characters should be marked HWS.Link Lab (talk) 09:30, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
The HWL characters were probably labeled like that as they were released for that game first. It's like if they decided to release the HWL-exclusive maps in HW, we would have to move every file to HWS, which is probably not worth it. - Chuck * (Talk) 04:38, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
But they weren't released in that game first. They were released at the same time in both games in every region. The reason they are mislabelled is that one region (Japan) got it first and someone assumed that those files from the Japanese version were from the American version, which is understandable but wrong, and because HWL wasn't out in the US, thought that it was released in HW first, which is also understandable but wrong. I'm not suggesting a rule change as I agree that would not be worth it. I also realise I'm most likely being really annoying with this and I am sorry about that but I am 100% sure that the files, as they are now, are incorrectly labelled as are all of the HWL VS icons and I can't fix it without leaving redirects, that only an admin can delete, for all of the files.Link Lab (talk) 18:00, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

The Molgera Larva[]

Should the Molgera Larva have it's own page now? Wolfgerlion64 (talk) 04:22, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Such a minor enemy that appears just once in just one game it's probably not worth it. - Chuck * (Talk) 04:38, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Question about Credits page formats[]

I'm not sure if you're the best person to ask about this but is there any particular reason that all/most Credits Pages have a width of 500px with a 50/50 split between Position and Member? Or would I be fine to mainspace my sandbox for the Hyrule Warriors Credits page? At the moment, it uses 650px, split 300 to position and 175 each to 2 member columns and the borders between the two member columns are hidden. This is to replicate the actual Credits as close as possible. Link Lab (talk) 20:05, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Whatever works best or makes it look better is fine. Your sandbox looks good enough to mainspace, although altrow tables might look better than the standard ones. - Chuck * (Talk) 20:55, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

BotW Christmas Artwork.jpg wasn't showing on the Gallery page[]

Hi,

I thought I'd mention that I noticed that when I went to Gallery:Breath of the Wild as in this revision, the image File:BotW Christmas Artwork.jpg wasn't showing, instead only text (as seen in this screenshot here). This was on Firefox, while I first noticed it when on Chrome. After editing the page and saving with no changes, it appeared to be fixed. I was wondering if you knew why this happens, and just to let you know. For completeness, I have an html snippet, comparing it to the image beside it:

html

Merry Christmas by the way!

--KokoroSenshi (talk | contribs) 11:56, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Hey there. That tends to happen more often than not, it can be fixed by refreshing the page, clearing the cache, and as you just saw, by saving the page without any edits. You might have noticed that also when uploading a new version of a file, where the older revision still appears. The dev team is aware of this, so we hope it can be fixed soon. Merry christmas as well! - Chuck * (Talk) 18:09, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
In this case, hard refreshing the page and trying a different browser I haven't used in a while didn't fix it, so it seems to be a server issue?
In the case of reuploading a new version of a file though, I believe it's the browser not knowing to redownload it (and thumbnails too?) from the server and instead using the cached version - it's fixed when I hard refresh the page.
I think it's the same issue described here or here, and I have a personal solution based on method (4) on here (though recently I think creating a temporary cookie to make the page hard refresh only once might be simpler if it works... which might be like this?). I always wondered if Cache-Control headers would work for server side?
--KokoroSenshi (talk | contribs) 08:41, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
I think Chuck is mixing up the two issues. What you were originally talking about is a problem with the server's cache for the page, whereas the image uploads is, as you are well aware, typically the browser cache of the image. The original problem generally happens if an edit and the upload happen within a short time of each other. The server's cache will refresh itself after a while so this is a very minor problem and it is also possible for users to force the server to refresh its cache with the purge command in the drop down at the top of the page. An edit with no changes also has the same effect but purging is preferable. Link Lab (talk) 10:37, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
Ah, thanks Link Lab, it's good to know that the server's cache refreshes by itself. Ahaha so now I know when to use that Purge command too (which I forgot existed) :)
Though the 2nd issue is still around, and when I think about it, how long do browsers normally keep an old image in cache I wonder? I suppose the main issue would be users' actions due to mistaking their upload to have failed, which I think could be fixed.

About Midna Shadowed Form[]

Hi ! I'd like to know if the Midna Shadowed Form I submitted is well done or not because I'd like to do other pictures that are supposed to have transparency and need alteration but I want to confirm if how I'm doing it is ok ! AzelleAx (talk) 00:04, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Hey there. It looks pretty good, so we would give it the thumbs up. And by the way, good job with the other background removals as well, we really appreciate your work so far :) - Chuck * (Talk) 04:34, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Mistakes[]

Why was this edit undone while this one was added by another Staff member? Where should we note these then? Because even though it's "only" a game guide and not the actual game itself, it is still an official piece of information licensed by Nintendo. MannedTooth (talk) 23:22, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

Thinking about it, we should really have a page for the guide and note the typographical errors there. I personally think it's valuable to note that error mentioned in your contribution, so perhaps that would be a decent compromise. - TonyT S C 01:03, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Good! :) So what about making a page "Mistakes in The Legend of Zelda Video Games" and another named "Mistakes in The Legend of Zelda Official Game Guides"? Or something similar to this? MannedTooth (talk) 01:21, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
What Tony was trying to say is that it would fit better in a page about the guide itself, or perhaps the Prima Games one. - Chuck * (Talk) 04:34, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
In my opinion, a single page for the mistakes would be good, since who knows how many mistakes there are in the numerous LoZ game guides. A page about each guide doesn't seem like they'd be meaty enough to exist (feel free to prove me wrong), and it's nice to have all the mistakes in one place (just my own opinion though). It seems to me that a list of mistakes would be out of place in the Prima Games page, or feel crammed in (if there are multiple for each guide and in multiple guides too).
I notice MannedTooth that you are making a sandbox page, though I think it'd be better not to be specific to just "Typographic Mistakes", though forgive me if I've butted in too early in making such a comment.
--KokoroSenshi (talk | contribs) 11:45, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
The thing is, we've been intending to make pages for the guides for a long time. That isn't in response to MannedTooth's edits. Merchandise pages don't necessarily follow the mainspace norms, so these pages would be the most appropriate to note these errors in a section following an overview of the contents. - TonyT S C 12:19, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Ok that makes sense; What kind of information/sections for the Game Guide pages are in mind? What can we do to help? --KokoroSenshi (talk | contribs) 21:52, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Citations[]

Concerning this edit, shouldn't the citation confirming his name be just after his name like in Photo instead of after the "in Phantom Hourglass"?

Also, about the "no need for two citations saying the same thing", allow me to say that the citation I added concerning the price wasn't exactly the same thing, as opposed to the one already there, it also talks about the fact that less damaged = cheaper to repair. So I think it should stay. MannedTooth (talk) 04:32, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

I just send you a message about the placement on your talk page. - TonyT S C 04:34, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
I'm fine for the placement, but what about the other citation that got removed? :P MannedTooth (talk) 04:46, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
