This article is about the recurring non-violent animal. For the recurring rabbit-like enemy, see Pols Voice.

Template:Species Rabbits are recurring animals in The Legend of Zelda series, their most significant role being in Spirit Tracks. In Link's Awakening, they inhabit the Animal Village. Rabbits also appear in A Link to the Past and in the Template:OoX.

Link's Awakening

In Link's Awakening, Rabbits are found in the Animal Village. If Link speaks to the first Rabbit, it says how nice the day is and that they need a song from Marin.[1] Another Rabbit tells the hero that a lazy walrus is blocking the entrance to Yarna Desert.[2] A Rabbit reveals that Mabe Village and the Animal Village are sister cities despite their small size and asks if a Dream Shrine is in Mabe village.[3] The last Rabbit says it cannot go to Mabe Village because of all the monsters and expresses concern for Marin's safety.[4] When Link brings Marin to the village, the Rabbits jump up and down upon seeing her. After Marin's singing awakens the walrus, the Rabbits says he is calling it as always.[5] The Rabbits are next seen listening to Marin sing the Ballad of the Wind Fish to them and the other animals.[6]

Oracle of Ages

In Oracle of Ages, a Rabbit listens to Nayru sing while singing along itself.[7] The Rabbit and other animals are frightened away as Veran releases Impa in order to possess the oracle.

In Spirit Tracks, Rabbits are usually seen hiding behind large boulders while riding the train, but can also be found behind floating barrels in watery places such as the Ocean Realm. In order for Link to catch the Rabbits, he must blast the object that they are hiding behind with the Cannon. He must then use the Rabbit Net to capture the Rabbit while it attempts to hop away. After the mode begins, Link only has 10 seconds to catch it. If he fails in his attempt, he will have to return at a later time to claim the Rabbit. Link can obtain the Rabbit Net from Bunnio.[8][9]

In all, there are five different breeds of Rabbit which can be found in their natural habitats. 10 different Rabbits can be found in each breed category, making for a total of 50 rabbits spread across New Hyrule. They are as follows:

  • Grass Rabbits
  • Snow Rabbits
  • Ocean Rabbits
  • Mountain Rabbits
  • Desert Rabbits

Once Link manages to capture a Rabbit, he can take it over to Rabbitland Rescue and sell the animals to the Bunnio. The Rabbitland Rescue Man's goal is to take care of all the stray Rabbits in Hyrule.[10] When Link manages to catch five Rabbits of any variety, the Rabbit Man will give him a Heart Container.[11][12] When 10 Rabbits are caught, Link will be given a random piece of treasure.[13] Another treasure is given after the young hero captures a Rabbit of each race. If Link is able to catch all 50 Rabbits, he will be given the First Swordsman's Scroll.[14][15] The scroll allows Link to shoot light beams out of the Lokomo Sword when he's at full health, something reminiscent of the original The Legend of Zelda.

Non-Canon Appearances

Oracle of Ages (Himekawa)

When Link and Impa enter a wood, they are confronted by the forest animals, including Rabbits. The Rabbits and other creatures surround them and demand they go back.[16][17] Link tries to calm the animals and tells them he was sent by Princess Zelda to find Nayru.[18] Upon hearing this, the forest creatures realize Link is a Hylian of the old blood and allows the two passage.[19] Two Rabbits listen to Nayru while she sings and plays her harp. One of the Rabbits asks what is wrong when she stops, urging the oracle to continue singing.[20] The Rabbits watch as Nayru converses with Link and Impa. Once Veran reveals her possession of Impa, the Rabbits and other creatures attack the Sheikah in an attempt to protect Nayru. The attack fails and Veran possess Nayru, using her abilities to travel back in time. One of the Rabbits examine Nayru's harp as Link picks it up. It eyes Ralph with a frown while he talks to Link.
