Not to be confused with Wallmaster.

Template:Enemy Floormasters, or Floor Masters, are recurring enemies in The Legend of Zelda series.

Characteristics

Floormasters are menacing, hand-shaped monsters, sometimes floating above the ground like in Ocarina of Time, or rooted to the ground like in The Wind Waker and Four Swords Adventures. In Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, these blue hands reveal themselves from the depths of the ground in ambush. In all appearances, however, these hands attack by grabbing onto their foes, and proceed to either hold them down so that others can attack, such as in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, drag Link back to the beginning of a dungeon room as in The Wind Waker, or pull him into the Dark World in Four Swords Adventures. The Floormaster is very similar to the Wallmaster in this way, which will also attempt to drag Link back to the dungeon's entrance once caught in its grasp.

In terms of actual attack method, the variety from Ocarina of Time glows green, hovers, and clenches. A single sword swipe will split the Floormaster into three sub-hands that will regenerate into the main figure if given enough time. These small hands tend to grab hold of Link's neck, providing a perfect opportunity for the others to jump on, dealing auxiliary damage. Occasionally these enemies may also be invisible, requiring use of the Lens of Truth to see them. Other varieties, such as the Floormasters from Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, either attack conventionally, or group together to increase their attack power. Interestingly, only the variety from The Wind Waker will pick up pots, chairs, and other miscellany nearby to use as projectiles against Link, given he is within the foe's range. The Floormasters of Four Swords Adventures appear in the Lost Woods, and cannot be killed, but can be stunned briefly.

The conventional sword is usually more than enough to dispel these creatures, however, specific titles have their own unique ways of dealing with these foes. Din's Fire in Ocarina of Time works excellently in defeating many Floormasters at once, while those of Majora's Mask fall under the piercing Light Arrows or to the reflection of light from the Mirror Shield. In The Wind Waker, freezing them with Ice Arrows and subsequently smashing them with the Skull Hammer is one possible strategy.

Trivia

  • The incarnation seen in The Wind Waker and Four Swords Adventures bears resemblance to Dead Hand's arms, Dexihands, or ???.
  • The Floormasters of The Wind Waker are the only kind that do not drag Link all the way back to the beginning of the dungeon when grabbed. They instead take him a couple rooms back, or to the beginning of the room in question.
  • Some of the sounds Floormasters make in The Wind Waker were recycled from Majora.
