"Divine Beast Vah Medoh" is a Main Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview[]

When Link first enters Rito Village, he is greeted by the sight of Divine Beast Vah Medoh flying up above. At the top of the Village, he will find Kaneli's House, where the elder resides. Kaneli starts to welcome Link to the village,[2] but he quickly takes notice of the Sheikah Slate he carries.[3] He introduces himself and asks Link if the item he has is truly a Sheikah Slate.[4] If Link confirms that it is the Sheikah Slate, Kaneli realizes that he must be a Champion, and therefore capable of boarding Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[5] However, remembering that it has been one hundred years, Kaneli reasons that Link must instead be a descendant who has inherited the Sheikah Slate.[6] As a result, he asks Link to hear his request.[7]

Kaneli thanks Link for choosing to listen to him.[8] Since Link is supposedly descended from a Champion, Kaneli asks him to help handle Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[9] Only Champions are capable of stopping a Divine Beast, and so he must rely on Link to calm it.[10] This reasoning was lost on some of the more headstrong Rito warriors,[11] which resulted in Harth being injured after confronting Divine Beast Vah Medoh with Teba.[12] Though Teba was uninjured, Kaneli believes he may be planning to face Vah Medoh alone.[13] He asks Link to find Teba and work with him to defeat the Divine Beast.[14] With this, the Main Quest begins.

According to Kaneli, Teba's wife Saki may know where he is.[15] When Link speaks to Saki, she admits that she overhead him speaking to Kaneli about fighting Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[16] The only thing she can do for him is say where Teba went,[17] which was to the Flight Range.[18] Saki explains the Flight Range to Link, saying it is in Dronoc's Pass at the base of the Hebra Mountains, and it is where warriors train in aerial combat.[19] She believes Teba is trying to gather Weapons for another attack on Vah Medoh.[20] Teba went on foot,[21] and Saki directs Link to Revali's Landing as a straight shot to the Flight Range.[22] Seeing a memorial for Revali triggers the "Revali's Flap" Recovered Memory.[23]

When Link exits the Memory, Saki is concerned for his well-being.[24] She apologizes for saying too much,[25] and she tells Link he can ask her anything if he does not understand.[26]

BotW Teba Introduction

Teba's introduction

Link can find Teba inside the hut at the Flight Range, where he is preparing his Falcon Bow. Since he does not know Link, Teba states he is busy and Link should leave.[27][28] Teba is confused when Link says he can help him,[29] though he does not believe Link could of assistance with Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[30] He asks Link his name,[31] then guesses the elder Kaneli sent him.[32] He mutters that Kaneli is too trusting.[33]

Teba tells Link that he is not going anywhere and refuses to rest until Rito Village is safe.[34] The only way he would go back to the Village would be when Divine Beast Vah Medoh no longer flies.[35][36] He resolves to kill the Divine Beast if he has to.[37]

When Link says they should get started, Teba realizes he has no place to talk Link out of it.[38] He reiterates that the only way to stop Divine Beast Vah Medoh would be to get inside,[39] but he sees no way of doing so.[40] When Link tries to counter him, Teba calls him brainless and says only a Champion could enter.[41]

Teba decides they need to focus on one step at a time.[42] If they approach recklessly, they will be shot out of the air by Vah Medoh's cannons.[43] He decides to test Link before they head out.[44] The Rito use the updrafts at the Flight Range to practice their archery,[45] which are so strong that Link could use his Paraglider to float around the Range.[46] Teba challenges Link to destroy five targets in three minutes.[47]

Once Link completes the Flight Range Mini-Game, Teba takes note of Link's skill and says it was like time stopped with every Arrow he shot.[48] Teba admits that he thought he was being pranked when Link showed up,[49] but he sees now that he is an experienced fighter.[50] If Link says he has seen a few, Teba tells him not to be modest.[51] Teba remarks that he feels as though he has heard Link's name somewhere before.[52]

Teba decides it is time to face Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[53] His role will be to get Link in position so he can attack the cannons.[54] He offers Link a Falcon Bow that he modified to use during the fight.[55] Since regular Arrows will not work on the Divine Beast, Teba gives Link a bundle of twenty Bomb Arrows.[56] He also warns Link that it will be cold in the sky,[57] so he should prepare a warm meal or warm clothes.[58]

Before they leave, Teba asks Link why he is risking his life to take down Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[59] If Link says he is rescuing Princess Zelda, Teba is confused as to what she has to do with this.[60] If Link says he is doing it just because, Teba says that he must be crazy.[61]

BotW Link Riding Teba

Link and Teba approaching Divine Beast Vah Medoh

Link rides on Teba's back as he flies up from the Flight Range. Once they are in the sky, Teba notes that he feels as though he is going to freeze.[62] He is disappointed when Divine Beast Vah Medoh puts its Barrier up again,[63] Noticing Link is silent,[64] Teba decides to go over their plan again.[65] Teba will draw the cannons' fire while Link destroys them with his Bomb Arrows.[66] He instructs Link to use his Paraglider to float straight up in the updraft if he needs to withdraw.[67] He also tells Link not to bother shooting anything covered by Medoh's Barrier, as his attack will be blocked.[68] In addition, he reminds Link not to touch the Barrier and to use his cold protection.[69]

After all of the cannons have been destroyed, Teba congratulates Link on his work.[70] However, as he is circling Divine Beast Vah Medoh, he notices a burn on his leg. He informs Link of the news,[71] and that he will be retreating to the Flight Range.[72] He tells Link to go ahead to Vah Medoh and wishes him luck.[73] He gives him a thumbs up before turning away.

When Link activates the Sheikah Slate Terminal outside of Divine Beast Vah Medoh, he hears Revali's voice, who admonishes him for taking a century to make it back.[74] He reasons that Link is there to reclaim Vah Medoh from Calamity Ganon.[75] To do this, Link will need a Map,[76] and so Revali directs him to the Guidance Stone.[77] When Link reaches the Guidance Stone, it will distill a Map of Divine Beast Vah Medoh for him,[78] which grants Link some control over it.[79]

Revali tells Link that he needs to look closely at the Map, as the Terminals he needs to find are marked by glowing points.[80] The only way to regain control of Vah Medoh is to activate all of the Terminals.[81] He asks Link if he is up to the challenge.[82]

Each Terminal authenticates the Sheikah Slate when it is activated.[83] When Link activates the first Terminal, Revali tells him he still has a ways to go.[84] After the second Terminal, he tells Link to keep going.[85] With three Terminals activated, Revali will note with bemusement that Link is almost there.[86] He is mocking when Link only has one Terminal remaining.[87] When Link activates the final Terminal, Revali instructs him to start the Main Control Unit.[88] He points out that there should be a new glowing spot on the map,[89] telling him to "flap to it".[90]

When Link attempts to activate the Main Control Unit, Malice will begin to swirl around it. Windblight Ganon forms above the Unit. Revali informs Link that Windblight Ganon plays dirty, but it only defeated him because he was winging it.[91] Though he can not believe he is saying it, Revali commands Link to avenge him.[92]

BotW Revali Introduction

Revali's introduction

Once Link defeats Windblight Ganon, a Heart Container appears and he will be able to activate the Main Control Unit. When he does so, he is greeted by the spirit of Revali.[93] Revali expresses his shock and thanks Link for freeing his spirit and returning Divine Beast Vah Medoh to its rightful owner.[94] However, he tells Link not to feel proud for doing his job.[95] As Link has proven his value, Revali decides he is worthy of Revali's Gale.[96] He lifts his wing, causing a green glowing orb to appear. He throws it at Link's chest, who floats as wind picks up around him.

Revali decides it is time for him to prepare for Divine Beast Vah Medoh's strike on Ganon,[97] though he mocks Link by suggesting he needs his help.[98] Though he asks Link to thank him,[99] Link begins to disappear in a golden light, so Revali tells him to go.[100] Before Link leaves, Revali reminds him that his job is not finished yet,[101] as Princess Zelda has been waiting for a long time.[102]

With Divine Beast Vah Medoh under his control, Revali perches it atop the spire in Rito Village. He sets Medoh's sights on Hyrule Castle.[103] From their vantage point, Revali believes that Medoh will have a direct angle on Calamity Ganon,[104] and he encourages it to give him everything it has got.[105] For now, all they can do is wait for Link's attack on the Castle,[106] though after waiting for 100 years, Revali believes Medoh can stand to wait for a just a bit longer.[107] Without Link present, Revali admits that Link finally made it to Divine Beast Vah Medoh without flying there,[108] and he was able to defeat a foe that Revali himself failed against.[109] Revali guesses he was wrong about Link's luck,[110] but for the sake of everyone, he hopes that it holds out.[111]

Link appears back on Revali's Landing, where he officially receives Revali's Gale. When he returns to Kaneli, the elder is relieved to see he survived and conquered Divine Beast Vah Medoh.[112] He states that it looks divine roosting at the top of the village.[113] He recites a legend stating the light from the Divine Beast are capable of ravaging the Calamity.[114] Divine Beast Vah Medoh will now be the protector of Rito Village.[115] As a reward, Kaneli gives Link the Great Eagle Bow, which can be found in a Treasure Chest nearby.[116] Upon closer inspection of Link, Kaneli wonders whether he may actually be the Hylian Champion from 100 years ago.[117] With this, the Main Quest will be completed.

Objectives[]

Stage Description
1 Kaneli, elder of Rito Village, wants you to help a local soldier named Teba. You offered your assistance, but first you must find the soldier.

Teba's wife Saki may know where he is. Ask around Rito Village to gather more information.
2 You found Saki and asked where Teba went. It sounds like he headed for the Flight Range.

Search the Flight Range for Teba.
3 You found Teba at the Flight Range, but he has no intention of returning to the village before Divine Beast Vah Medoh has been appeased.

He intends to appease the Divine Beast himself. You had better help him out.
4 Teba won't let you anywhere near Divine Beast Vah Medoh unless you can at least hit the targets at the Flight Range.

If you catch an updraft with your paraglider, it'll carry you high into the sky. Use this technique to destroy five targets with arrows within the time limit to prove yourself to Teba.
5 You proved your mettle by hitting the targets at the Flight Range.

When it comes time to battle Divine Beast Vah Medoh, Teba will draw the focus of its attacks so you can focus on destroying its cannons.

Teba will carry you into the sky where Divine Beast Vah Medoh awaits.
6 The battle with Divine Beast Vah Medoh has begun!

Use the paraglider to launch into the air for a good vantage point, and then take out all the cannons with your bomb arrows.

But be careful—if you get too close, you'll run into the Divine Beast's barrier!
7 You destroyed all of Divine Beast Vah Medoh's cannons and landed on its back, but Teba suffered injuries and had to retreat.

You must finish what you both started. Enter Divine Beast Vah Medoh on your own to stop it once and for all!
8 You defeated Windblight Ganon, which had infested the insides of Divine Beast Vah Medoh.

The Divine Beast has been enshrined at the highest point of Rito Village, and moreover, it looks like Teba was able to safely return to Rito Village. Go report to Kaneli.
Complete You reported to Kaneli that Divine Beast Vah Medoh has regained its senses.

Your efforts have earned you the power of the Champion Revali, Revali's Gale.

  56. "OK, it's time to face Divine Beast Vah Medoh. Normal arrows won't put a dent in those cannons. You'll need to hit them with bomb arrows. These are a precious commodity, so don't expect me to do this again, but... take these bomb arrows." — Teba (Breath of the Wild)

  58. "You'll want to prepare a warm meal or bring some warm clothes." — Teba (Breath of the Wild)

  60. "[To rescue Zelda.] Zelda? But that's the name of the princess Revali served 100 years ago at Hyrule Castle. I don't know what she has to do with Divine Beast Vah Medoh, but whatever. As long as you're helping me bring down Medoh, your motivation is fine by me." — Teba (Breath of the Wild)

  68. "Don't bother aiming for anything covered by Medoh's barrier. It's impenetrable." — Teba (Breath of the Wild)
  69. "And whatever you do, don't get close enough to touch it. And finally—I know I've said this a few times already, but don't forget your cold protection." — Teba (Breath of the Wild)
