A list of theories

I can't get the upcoming Zelda game out of my head, so I spend my spare time making a list of theories and ideas. I want to post them here to see if anyone else has anything close to my guesses.

1. Story- maybe of how the sword was made. Another thought I had regarding this was maybe it is a continuation of Majora's mask. After link heads back to the forest. Noting the older version of Link, i thought about OoT. He is sealed away for 7 years because he is too young to be the Hero of Time. Maybe in this one he has become too old? Also, maybe it includes Time travel, such as in OoT.

2. Another odd thought popped into my head about the combat system. Perhaps Hand to hand combat will be integrated in this game? If The master sword is a character for this one, what else could link do? There's just no other sword for him. Wii motion plus would make it easier for this to happen, but there is no doubt that there will be sword-play for it too, as the main reason for Motion-plus.

3. Blue figure- perhaps plays a role like Midna did? She could be used as a sword *Assuming she is the Master Sword*, and transform into her other form. And maybe Link will undergo a change as well, same as TP? --Ganonftw 06:20, 21 January 2010 (UTC) Template:OT

Ideas such as these would be better suited for a forum, where your theories will be received in more appropriate company. Thanks!User:Cipriano 119/sig 06:22, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah. Ok. Im still kind of new here, ill get used to everything in a bit. Thanks for the help. Want me to delete my edit?--Ganonftw 06:27, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Of course not! You're additions here will help other users realize some of the regulations here before they try to submit similar ideas. But you have the right idea, Ganonftw - any other wiki-related questions you have should be submitted here, or at the main question hub so that the admins and the frequent users can look at them at a separate, more appropriate location away from the main content talk pages. If you need anything else, always feel free to ask! =)User:Cipriano 119/sig 07:04, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

a few questions

i was wondering:

1. how does a person (eg. me) become an admin? if thats even possible

2.can you please put more quotes in the "quote of the visit" userbox I've read them all and there are some other quotes like the ones already on the wiki (probably)

3. I finally remembered it: how do you make a picture change each time you see said picture??
Eg. visit 1 Pic A, visit 2 Pic B, visit 3 Pic 3... etc?? Ω Minish 20:19, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

4. do I really need to sign my sig even though it is in the header of this section well whatever Minish Ω 01:56, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

5.Matt can you please give me the templates for the "my edits" userbox thingy and the my contributions template that has like every edit/contribution that you've ever made?

Please Minish Ω 02:14, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Here are your answers:
  1. After proving yourself as a legitimate and quantifiable editor in respect to all aspects of the wiki, including templating, image work, user relations, content addition, referencing, and organizing. Not only must you have a relationship with the current admins, but you must also be a frequent contributor. Becoming an admin also does not happen overnight, they seem to be picked from the user crowd that exhibits a continued, vested interest towards the betterment of the wiki - and even then the admin position is yielded only after further proof that oneself is capable and reliable in handling administrative responsibility. I'm not saying you haven't done any of these things, this is just the bulk of what they seem to look for. Although I am not an admin, this is what I've seen, as I am close with the admin crowd. Anyone can become admin if they really put for the time and effort! =)
  2. That sounds like a good idea.
  3. (Answer will come when question is available)
  4. YES. That is the most important of all when it comes down to leaving comments and such. It lets us see your user name, but most importantly the time stamp, or the time of day the comment was made. By that we can judge if the comment is dated or irrelevant to the current time.
  5. Many users have this template on their userpage. You are free to take this template straight from their userpage and link it to yours, as it has become a staple across the wiki for many users.

Good questions, and this is where to ask them! I'll see you around the wiki! =) User:Cipriano 119/sig 02:56, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

That other contributions thing on my page is not a template. It's just a list. And it's outdated. And I rather think a sig shouldn't be in the header, so I took that out. The other edit thing on there is User Edit Extended.User:Matt/sig 04:26, January 31, 2010 (UTC)
As to the images thing, that's just an extension we have that randomly selects one item from a set. Instructions are off-site here. User:Matt/sig 20:40, January 31, 2010 (UTC)

those little icons at the top of pages

how do you get it so that you can have an image in the top right corner of a page like the admins have but only with any image
-Note: you can just give me the link to wherever it is
-FORESTMINISH(U)(T)(C)(Home) 04:31, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

http://zeldawiki.org/Template:Icon Just copy and paste the template that shows up on the page. However, if you wish to have an image as an icon that doesn't already exist here on ZW, you may have to upload it. Enjoy! User:Cipriano 119/sig 04:52, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

A New Userbox (Eh heh heh heh...)

Hi there! I'm PrincessMidna, and I was thinking... There are a bunch of funny userboxes like, "This user is a Cucco Hunter!" or "DODONGO DISLIKES SMOKE". So I thought to myself, "Hey! What if I made a funny userbox that is Zelda-related?" The only thing that holds me back? I HAVE NO IDEA HOW. Then, I saw in the "Castle Town" section that you could actually ask someone to make a userbox in The Heart Container (or something along those lines). So, I was thinking: Whenever I talk to Carlov in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, he always ends his sentences with a little pink heart. And, when I showed him a picture of Manny, he said something similar to, "OMG! This guy is SO handsome! OMG, OMG, OMG! I'll make a figurine right away! ♥" So, basically, what I'm asking is... Would anyone be so courteous as to make a userbox with a picture of Carlov, the userbox saying, "CARLOV IS GAY! ♥" (minus the quotation marks) for me? Or is that inappropriate? If anyone would, I will be very happy, but if it's inappropriate, than I COMPLETELY understand. Thanks! Bye! --PrincessMidna 21:19, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

I take offense to that. I just think he's eccentric, like me! ♥ Noble Wrot 02:31, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Mandi made it for you. Still I do not aprove. No matter if it is true or not. By the way, you can just make one yourself. Just look at the basic codes of other templates. -- կրակ (խոսել) -- 02:57, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Yes, if you like you can just copy the userbox code and add it to your userpage. If you would like anything on the userbox changed, just let me know! :)User:Mandi/sig 02:58, February 25, 2010 (UTC)
Mandi - Thanks! I love it! Except, (sorry if you take this as rude, I'm not trying to be) because Carlov pretty much ALWAYS ends his sentences with a heart, could you add that, please? -- PrincessMidna 21:10, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Noble Wrot - I'm sorry! *shot* I've never been one to come up with ideas that everyone likes... And, yes, I agree that he is eccentric. -- PrincessMidna 21:10, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
կրակ - I'm sorry, too. Again, I've never been one to have likeable ideas... -- PrincessMidna 21:10, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Twilight Princess Help

Hi everyone, I am new to this site and must say it looks like a goldmine of resources.

I played Zelda way back in 97 on the original Nintendo and have not played since until we purchased a Wii this past Christmas for the kids and my wife bought me Twilight Princess.

It was hard to find and she actually bought a used copy from Game.

After about 150 hours of play I have finally reached the last battle with Ganon.

Unfortunately my game disk keeps telling me it is unreadable at this point so I cannot finish the game.

I am reluctant to purchase a new disk just to fight the last battle as I would rather buy another adventure - or wait for the newest release.

Would I be out of line asking if anyone may be prepared to loan me a copy to finish the game?

Many thanks,

Steve C 08:59, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Music Help

Could someone please fix the music links? Whenever I click on one of them, it tells me that I followed an invalid link. If someone could do something about that, I would really apreciate it. Thanks!Zeldalover93 18:28, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Can you tell us which music links? - AtrumLevis  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 03:58, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

The Temple of Time, Gerudo Valley, and the Shadow Temple are a few and I think there are a couple of others that I have tried to get in the past but they did not work. Zeldalover93 00:05, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Definition of 'Race'

I asked this before in Hyrule Castle, but maybe I should have posted here. When defining the races of Hyrule, what requirements does a race candidate need to meet to be placed in the category. I mean, do they need to be able to speak? If so, the Gibdos (and Stalchildren with the Captain's Hat) from Majora's Mask must be a 'race' as if Link puts on the Gibdo Mask it is possible to converse with them. GerudoValley 4:44, 22 March 2010

They function more as an enemy than a race. I would check out Race and Genetics on Wikipedia. When I think of a race in Zelda, I think of a group of intelligent people that can form together and form some sort of... government or group. Gibdos and Stalchildren do not. - AtrumLevis  (My Talk Page) (My Contributions) 03:56, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
The Races template lists Garo as a race, however, and they show up even less than enemy races like Moblins and Stalchildren and such. Maybe "Race" is a friendly or neutral group of people, while others are just enemies. Ganondorfdude11 04:38, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Well what about the Gerudo and the Deku Scrubs? They appear as both enemies and allies and are listed as races. As for Yusei, the Stalchildren do have a government in the form of Skull Keeta and Igos du Ikana. So what I'm asking is why are the Lokomos listed as a race but the Stalchilden aren't (In case you were wondering, Byrne is a Locomo) as they have both friendly and aggressive members. GerudoValley 4:43, 23 March 2010
Things like this make me wonder if we are under complicating things or over complicating them :p I mean if you put on the Mask of Truth, Gossip Stones gain the ability to speak, shrink to a Minish and the cows, dogs, cats, horses, chicks, etc do too. I'm unsure of why the Garo are on there; but you are correct, it's time to define this.User:Axiomist/sig 14:19, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
A race in question must follow of all the following rules. 1. They cannot be entirely evil ; 2. They must be able to communicate with each other; 3. Must be living organisms; 4. Cannot have always consisted of only one member; 5. They cannot be part of another race; 6. They must form a society. If a potential race meets all these requirements in at least one game (not including games such as Super Smash Bros. series and the Soulcaliber serios), it should be concidered a race; if it does not, it should be removed from the list. If a race meets all these requirements it should be added. GerudoValley 17:16, 14 March 2010
I kind of like that. Question- Deities-will they still be considered a race? I think they belong in the template, but I don't think they formed a society for themselves. User:Axiomist/sig 00:56, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
That actually sounds like a fairly good definition. However, that would still include enemies like Bulblins, because they're not "entirely" evil. I think "Must have formed a society" is the least concrete point in the definition. Like Axiomist said, it seems to exclude deities, of which there are many in the Zelda universe, almost always benevolent figures, so they can't be excluded for being enemies. Likewise, Yetis don't seem to have much of a society, we only see two of them.Ganondorfdude11 01:00, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
Maybe an 'Undead' race could be added for the living impaired? PureLocke 02:55, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
I think deities should be allowed just for lack of a better place to it. And I meant to add to the Rule #6, 'or a similar group such as a family'. But I do think we should include the Bulblins as they met all the rules. Also the Garo Robes need to be removed as Garo is already on the list and the Garo Robes are a part of the Garo race. Zelda Wii Release Date

I learned at a local Gamestop that they would be releasing the game on November 1, 2010. I looked at the page you guys have for the upcoming game and under the release date it still says "Before the end of 2010". I wanted to update this but I couldn't because it was locked. Could you guys please fix this so everybody knows about it and can be prepared for it? Thanks! Zeldalover93 16:23, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Gamestop doesn't always have the correct dates. They tend to use placeholder dates so they can get preorders. The actual release date is not yet set, in fact the game might even be delayed.User:Matt/sig 16:27, April 25, 2010 (UTC)

Quote Template

Hi there. As I've been browsing the site, I've noticed the Quote Template is not displaying prettily on my browser... (See Sheikah or Deku Butler, for example.) The last two quotation marks, or sometimes just the dash at the end before the credit, appear off the edge of the page frame and cause a scroll bar to appear along the bottom of the window. It looks super unattractive. Is this an issue with the template or with my browser/resolution? I'm away from home for a few weeks, so I haven't been able to compare with another computer... Thanks!! Help?

Okay I have two things I need help with. The first one is I can't figure out how to name my big userbox with the different things like my fav game is blah blah blah I think you know what I'm talking about... If someone could tell me how or do it for me I would love it! I would like it named 'Linkissohot's Stuff about her'. Without the single quotation marks, of course. It's the one on my user page if you didn't know. Second, I'm not sure exactly what it's called, but I want one. It's at the top right for every character page (ex. Midna, Link) with the picture and race and gender and stuff like that... It might be a userbox? I have no clue...But I want one really bad! If you could make me one I'd love it a ton... Here's the info: Name: Linkissohot, Gender: Female, Race: Zora, and if you could for family I'd like Princess Ruto ☺... Oh and could you put a picture of a zora? Maybe Rutella or ummm... I think her name's Laruto? If someone could do that I would love it sooooo much!!! I'm new so I have no clue what I am doing...Thanks! Linkissohot 21:08, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I need some help, please.

I have been editing the article Hyrule/Appearances by Game and since I have been making it smaller, some of the pictures are clashing and not going with the correct parts. I don't know how to do this, and I would really like someone to fix this... (please?) I'm going to keep editing the article, but once I'm finished, it will be much smaller and so the pictures will not be in the right area. If anyone can help, that would be wonderful. Thanks Ladybug95 00:56, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, don't worry about it, I'll fix it once you're done. :) Dany36 00:57, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I am finished (finally). I did take out two parts, that I'm not really sure about (see the talk page for the article). Otherwise, all of the non-hyrule stuff is all gone. Thanks for helping me out. Ladybug95 02:02, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
No problem! Thank YOU for your help! I'll fix the image placements right away. Dany36 02:07, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Pictures error?

I've been trying to add updated/ better quality pictures today and I keep getting the same error code/message. "The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file and upload again." The files are png and are under 2 MB. And the files aren't corrupt. I've also tried multiple times. Any suggestions or ideas of how to fix this. Also, this has happened to me on 3 different occasions. Thanks Ladybug95 01:06, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Well, if you're trying to upload a better image of a file that's already on the wiki and one that has a .jpg file extension, you'll get the error saying the file has an incorrect extension since the image that you're trying to upload has a .png extension. Try just uploading the file using this page instead of using the "Upload a new version of this file link" that's on the page of several image files. If the error still persists, upload the image to a free hosting image server such as ImageShack and we'll upload it for you. :) Dany36 02:16, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
HA! It worked! That made sense, so if it is originally a jpeg, then your new file should be a jpeg, then if it is originally a png then it should be a png and so on. Thanks I got it to work! :D Ladybug95 03:44, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Awesome! Glad to know that was the problem...used to happen a lot to me, too. :s Dany36 03:53, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

A little confused about effective weapons?

I've done a bit of editing in the enemies section lately, and if the enemy is weak to the Bow & Arrow, half the time it'll say "Arrows" in the effective weapons box, the other half it'll be "Bow". Which one is the correct one? I mean, the enemy is weak to the actual arrow, not the bow, but yet it's the bow that is the weapon. It's not like it's that big a deal, but I feel we should settle on one particular word to make things more uniform. Lately I've been editing the effective weapons and I've changed a few from "Bow" to "Arrows" and I'm starting to feel like I've made a mistake...

What do you guys think? Hylian King 07:20, 26 August 2010 (EDT)

EDIT: I've realized that some description boxes have a "weaknesses" category instead of the "effective weapons" category. I guess if it were the former you would put "Arrows", the latter "Bow". Still, I feel like we should choose between "weaknesses" and "effective weapons" and stick to it for the sake of uniformity... Hylian King 07:34, 26 August 2010 (EDT)

TWW Nintendo Gallery Project

Hey guys, I'm starting a little project of my own concerning the Nintendo Gallery. Call me crazy, but I'd like to add the Nintendo Gallery figurine description and picture to every single character, enemy and boss in the Wind Waker. I'm just asking if anyone has a problem with what I want to do, or if they have any suggestions on how I should proceed...Or if there's someone who's crazy as me who would like to help out. Hylian King 15:16, 26 August 2010 (EDT)

I'm pretty sure that all of the articles that have corresponding figurines have the template on them already. - ZeldaMan 20:27, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Most of them already have them...I'm not sure if ALL of them do, but I'd say that 90% of all the figurine templates are on their respective pages. ;) Dany36 20:13, 26 August 2010 (EDT)
If memory serves, Minion was working on something like this... Embyr 75  --Talk-- 20:42, 26 August 2010 (EDT)

Japanese Standardization

You've probably seen the Japanese names of people, objects or places at the bottom of an article, but there hardly seems to be a standard in how we display the information. This lack of uniformity sometimes makes the pages look messy. I think we have two things to worry about, namely:

1. Romaji Standards

Consider the following romaji examples. They originate from "神々のトライフォース", A Link to the Past's Japanese name, with the last two coming from "ありがとう", meaning "Thank you".

  • Kamigami no Toraifo-su (Katakana style of extended vowels)
  • Kamigami no Toraifōsu (Accented letter for extended vowel)
  • Kamigami no TORAIFŌSU (Capitalized katakana)
  • Arigatou (Hiragana style of extended vowels)
  • Arigatō (Accented letter for extended vowel)

You should notice that "no" was never capitalized, and it already seems to be a standard. Just as in English, minor words and particles (eg. a, the, and, or, etc) should be left in the lower case. At the moment, I'd like to push for the accented letter system because it provides the easiest pronunciation for both hiragana and katakana. I also find the capitalization of katakana unnecessary.

2. Display Formats

I've come across two common formats, but I'd like to propose my own:

  • 神々のトライフォース
  • 神々のトライフォース (Kamigami no Toraifōsu)
  • 神々のトライフォース (Triforce of the Gods)

Unfortunately, I can't decide which of these is most appropriate, especially when we have pages with many names (see: Chuchu). If you've got any ideas for a standardized format, please share them. User:Minion/sig 17:34, 10 September 2010 (EDT)

There's an alternative template we might use. It really depends on if we want the underline and question mark or not.
      • 神々のトライフォース
      • 神々のトライフォース (Kamigami no Toraifōsu)
      • 神々のトライフォース (Triforce of the Gods)
Same functionality, just a different format and display.User:Matt/sig 23:15, September 10, 2010 (UTC)
Is it possible to program the template so that it will include a third option for the translation? Like, if you'd type {{Exp|Kamigami no Toraifōsu|Triforce of the Gods|神々のトライフォース}}, it would display Kamigami no Toraifōsu and there under Triforce of the Gods?
As for the romanization, I strongly accented leter system because it helps distinguish between an elongated vowel (like in Shīku) and a vowel reboot (like in kawaii). Adding an "u" to display the pronunction might confuse people. I'm not much for capitalizing katakana because it looks sloppy and I wouldn't know what purpose it serves.
I write the first letters of major words in capitals, but I prefer not to do that when there's a prefix. お面 I rather romanize as o-Tsura, to indicate the core word from the status additions that people unfamiliar with Japanese won't get. IfIHaveTo 03:13, 11 September 2010 (EDT)

@Matt: I think we should keep the cursor, just as a hint to newer users. I also think the light blue should be changed to something more noticeable. Maybe like this:

  • 神々のトライフォース (Kamigami no Toraifōsu)

@IfIHaveTo: I don't think so. The third parameter in the "Exp" template is for alternate color choices. Changing that might break some things on the wiki. However, Template:Japanese is a relevant, unused template. We can easily adapt it to the following:

  • {{Japanese | Kanji | Romaji | Translation (Optional) | Format (Optional) }}, where Format is an option between one of the three formats above. Default should be "Kanji (Romaji)".

Status Additions are unfamiliar to me, but I see the merit of your system. I think a list of such additions would be useful. I hope that we eventually put the Standards of Romanization along with this list and character display help on a Help Page. User:Minion/sig 06:28, 11 September 2010 (EDT)

I support a change of template for Japanese names then. Seems like the better thing to do.
Something I forgot to say in regards to "status addotons", "(g)o-" is the only one I have proper knowledge of, so I'm not sure how relevant this is for other prefixes like it, but "o-Tsura" is a bit of an exception. Most words starting with the prefixes "o-" are nowadays not done to be without, like oba-san. In those cases, "o-" is practically part of the word and can be the capital. But with tsura, the "o-" is not, so I prefer to keep it separate like that. IfIHaveTo 09:24, 12 September 2010 (EDT)
Template:Japanese has been updated. Feel free to use it now. You also reminded me of something. What about suffixes like -san, -chan, -sama, etc? I assume that they'd still benefit from the "-" + lowercase system. I'll start writing up a help guide for the romanization which I'll submit to an admin for approval. If you would like to help develop it, visit my Sandbox (link at the end of signature). I should have something up be tomorrow. User:Minion/sig 06:43, 13 September 2010 (EDT)

Image Gallery Standardization

I've been looking at the various Enemy, Boss and Character galleries of different games, and I've noticed there's a lot of variation between the different galleries. Some, like the character gallery in The Wind Waker, are composed almost entirely of official artwork. Others, like the enemy gallery of Ocarina of Time, almost always use actual in-game images. Some boss galleries use both. And then there's the mix-matched galleries, who use a combination of artwork and screenshots. What I'm trying to say is, the galleries doubly need attention, and here's why:

1)There is no consistency of image types between all the different galleries.
2)There is also a lack of consistency in several individual galleries where a mix of artwork images and screenshots are used.

I'm suggesting that we decide on one type of image and stick to it for each gallery, if not for all of them as a whole.

It's just a thought, but I do believe the galleries are a rather important part of the Wiki, and standardizing the galleries would just make everything look more professional.

What do you guys think? Hylian King 19:23, 12 September 2010 (EDT)

Well, some characters and enemies do not have official art (yet), so that can't be helped. However, I believe that if something has good quality official art from the game or a relevant one (eg. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are almost interchangeable), then that should be used. I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I think that the bottom part of this page looks more professional and appealing than the top part. User:Minion/sig 06:43, 13 September 2010 (EDT)
