Image Copyrighting

I recently changed the Mystery Seed image to be transparent like the other seeds on the Mystical Seed page, but I had to make a new page since the JPG version wouldn't go transparent. Since it isn't my image, and I didn't scan it in, it didn't seem right to take any sort of credit for it. The original image (the jpg) was cited as contributed by Yuvorias, and I didn't know what to do with the copyright/citing of the new image. So here I am...do I cite it to Yuvorias, myself, Nintendo, or can I just not cite it and leave it be? -Italiangenius91 (T C) 02:55, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

The way it's set up, is that if you "significantly" change the image, it should be put under your name. Do you think you made substantial changes? I'd ask him what he thinks on his talk page, if I were you.
The exact text is as follows: This template indicates that you yourself created this image by scanning it, taking it (as in a screenshot), or significantly editing an existing image. Alter  {T C B H }

mylogin

my login isnt been working too well. it keeps unlogging in and causing me problems. i need help. [[User:The-Gman!]] DATS ME!!! 02:51, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

No one else is reporting problems. But we are willing to test the site in various browsers provided you tell us which one is acting up to you. User:Axiomist/sig 04:08, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
This may be Internet Explorer related. My computer offers Firefox and IE, and I much prefer Firefox. If you're using IE, I suggest you research a Firefox download. The site will run much more smoothly, as it was designed by and for Firefox. IE creates all sorts of problems.Justin(Talk) 12:35, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Music?

Could it be possible for this Wiki to incorporate music files on ocarina song pages, or in general? I believe music clips from the actual games (used only for articles that necessitate it, like Requiem of Spirit or even the Twilight Princess theme to Hyrule Field) would add another dimension to the site, create extra interest, and fully-involve the reader along with the visuals and text already in the article. They could even be referenced and attributed - like they are on Wikipedia itself. Good idea? User:Cipriano 119/sig 03:37, 27 October, 2009 (UTC)

It's certainly a possibility. Not sure how feasible or legal it is, but it's something we can look into. --Xizor 05:45, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
We had something similar to this a while ago on the Midna article, using YouTube audio-only clips in the article. Also, you'll find that most articles in the Songs category have a link with "listen to/play this song". If you were thinking of something more "integrated", we could talk about (and investigate implementing) an embedded MP3 player in articles. For the actual audio files themselves, I think we'd prefer to use externally hosted files. Not only does this minimise the amount of disk space the wiki uses, but it transfers the question of legality to the site(s) hosting the files instead of us ;) User:Adam/sig 12:52, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Take a look at Deku Temple page. It works, but I think a small mp3 player would better suffice. Less clutter, more simplistic, etc. Anyway, I think it's a good idea. Alter  {T C B H } 15:59, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
Yea, I was thinking about something a bit more integrated - yes, like a small mp3 player directly in the article itself! At that point, they could read about what went into the song/its importance and listen to it at the same time, without looking at some YouTube video distraction. The link to the Deku Temple page is broken btw :( How would we go about doing the mp3 thing?
Not only would it create a valuable interface, but it would increase the number of new pages dedicated only to theme songs, temple songs, intro/credits overtures, and in-game fanfare that would appeal to those wishing to find game music as well as factual info on the games. User:Cipriano 119/sig 05:31, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

I own most of the soundtracks for Zelda games too, so I could be of some help... --Legosora 17:01, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Majora's Mask Glitch Page and Private video?

I just noticed that the first video on the Majora's Mask Glitch page is a private youtube video and therefore unviewable by the public. Can/should this be changed or removed? Thanks. --Kidbrock9 13:33, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for letting us know! I've contacted the person who added the video to that page in the first place, because if it's his own video, then he can make it public. Otherwise, if it's not his video, it will be taken off the page. Shona 14:24, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
It wasn't his video, but I found a new one on YouTube so I've updated the page now. Shona 05:30, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

What Happened to the Article Count?!

The article count has dropped over 100 articles! What happened? Did someone replace the {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}} with just a number? Or did we lose articles? Or perhaps it no longer includes pages which only redirect to another page?Justin(Talk) 21:39, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps the merges that have taken place have something to do with that, but that's not a bad thing. Quality trumps quantity in my book. If it means slightly decreasing the number of articles to merge small ones into larger, more substantial articles, I don't see anything wrong with it. We'll have a lot of new ones coming with Spirit Tracks too I'm sure. Link87 22:06, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm not exactly sure on the details, but all of the articles that pertain to the Community (for example, Zelda Dungeon, Zelda Universe, etc) aren't accounted for anymore when it comes to the total article count, which is better, since that way we have a more accurate count. ;p Dany36 03:12, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
We made an announcement on the Main Page :D But like Dany says alot of the websites had articles that really ought not have been a part of the count. Also ZW specific pages also are not a part of the count. This move was more like making our Article Count honest. And we can begin cleaning up those community pages- merging all of the ZU memes into a single page for one. User:Axiomist/sig 03:23, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Advanced Template making

There is nothing in the help about how to use all those template editing features with the pips and page names and voids and such. Ganondox (U) (T) (C) 02:12, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Yeah I'm having template headaches too. :P Well you are free to get a Help Guide started, write up what you know and mention in the talkspace what you want to know. User:Axiomist/sig 02:14, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
I've actually had an idea in my head to write a help guide for HTML coding. I figure I'm going to go ahead and make one called Help:HTML and include everything I know from navboxes to definition lists. I could definitely include about how to make userboxes in there if you want to write that up. Hell, I can even teach you how to create one out of pure, raw coding.Justin(Talk) 21:07, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

All I know is I think that {{PAGENAME}} displays the page name, and some stuff on includeonly and notinclude. Hyrule Castle/Archive 6 Ganondox (U) (T) (C) 01:25, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Image Delete Template

Would it be possible for someone to make a template that would say something along the lines of:
'It has been suggested that this image be deleted for the reason that...'

Then the reason would go after a | and using the template would place it in a catagory so those with the ability to delete images can do so much much easier.

So when you use it, it will look something like this:
{{DeleteImage|superseded|link to file}},
{{DeleteImage|quality}},
{{DeleteImage|unused}} and so on. User:Aerostella/sig 21:53, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

I'll get to work on it sometime tomorrow. I know how to code one, and I like the idea.Justin(Talk) 22:10, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! :D User:Aerostella/sig 23:19, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I have a better idea. What if I coded the regular deletion template so that when the name space is File, the user can put the reason for deletion and the link to the new file (if necessary)? That would save us the redundancy of having two templates which basically do the same thing.Justin(Talk) 02:53, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Sure, that works. User:Aerostella/sig 04:10, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
We completely upheaved your work Neo. Template:Imdel Variables were added so if you want to tag it as Superseded (or duplicated-df) just type: sup and add a file name, for other deletions a simple {{imdel|ur}} for instance will fill in the terms 'uploader request'. User:Axiomist/sig 00:36, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

I saw, Axi. I was just going to add onto our deletion template, but you guys blew me out of the water on the image delete thing. Great work to you and Adam.Justin(Talk) 02:48, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Custom skins

Okay, so there's absolutely NO information about making custom skins. I don't suppose anyone knows a thing or two about it?Justin(Talk) 21:18, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Character Titles in Article Names

Ok, skype is full of debate on using character titles such as Mayor _____, Minister _____, Chancellor ____. I'll point out that dropping this system will forever be inconsistent with the main girl...Princess Zelda we certainly need the word Princess in there and Zelda goes to a disambig page. I've seen several pages being moved to drop the title. So we need consistency....and some votes. Should we keep the Character titles in the article names?

Emm...Did I start something? Alter said that we needed to keep consistency by dropping titles in names, so I figured we had mostly untitled character names in articles.Justin(Talk) 02:46, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
It seems to be solely Alter's Point of View, he would even drop any instance of Dr. from a name, etc. Which is radically different than other fiction wikis. Dr. Who for example won't be dropping that. User:Axiomist/sig 02:52, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Please place your edit in the section which represents your stance.

Vote support.png Support
  1. I vote we keep consistent and use the titles where known. User:Axiomist/sig 02:23, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
  2. I absolutely agree, titles like Princess are vital to the name, but futhermore consistency must be kept.User:Steven/sig 02:25, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
  3. Keep the titles. That's what they're called in the game. It will be rather...silly to drop the titles for characters such as Mayor Dotour and Madame Aroma, considering they're never referred to as Dotour or Aroma in-game. It's about showing respect and doing it the proper way. I had no idea the titles were dropped for Minister Potho and Mayor Ruul, otherwise I would have started a discussion about it long ago. Dany36 02:30, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
  4. Keep 'em. I was confused when I first saw Chancellor Cole moved to Cole. I don't get why anyone would think they should be dropped and most people are going to look for them with the titles since that is what they are called in-game. Triforce (T C) 02:57, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
  5. While I do see Alter's point, I would never think to search just "Potho" when I was looking for a "Minister Potho" the name I saw him responding to in-game. As with Princess Zelda, her title has become her name! The article titles should be names readers would recognize directly from the games. We cannot stoop to "Zelda (Princess)" if everyone in-game calls her Princess Zelda. And I thought the games were pure canon. User:Cipriano 119/sig 03:30, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
  6. I vote we keep the names where they are. I sure wouldn't search for Doutour (Mayor) or Zelda (Princess)! I thought that type of naming system was only neccessary for disambigs? I think the names are the best the way they are. ZestyCactus 04:11, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
  7. My gut says so. • Pete | 17:38, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Vote oppose.png Oppose
  1. # Oppose. I agree about the consistency. I had been told that it was the Wiki's policy earlier, and I spread on that info to others. I suppose that it's just now coming up because of the talk over "important" pages such as Princess Zelda. The way I see it is that people are given titles which are added to their names, and not names that are added to their titles. If you go to Wikipedia and look up President Obama, it redirects you to Barrack Obama. That's his name. Also, after Cole is defeated or Killed, do you think that he'll always be called Chancellor Cole? No, that's not his name. He would be referred to later on as "Cole", or "Demon Cole" or something like that. Titles come and go, names usually do not.
As for Zelda, I'd suggest naming her page "Zelda (Princess)". It wouldn't be consistent to keep it Princess Zelda, but it could slide due to the recognition. And in referrence to some of the points broght up... that's what redirects and disambig pages are for. it's better to do it the right way than the easy way. We're an encyclopedia, and we should do things the encyclopedic way. Alter  {T C B H } 02:59, December 7, 2009 (UTC)
Edit: I don't really, really care about this, so don't let me hold everyone up, but I think that with just a little more effort, we can do it the proper way, and achieve the same results. Also, the games sometimes do refer to people with titles without them. There are a few in the Oracle games, I believe. And Zelda is sometimes just called Zelda. And to Zesty, typing in Princess Zelda would just redirect you to her page. Alter  {T C B H } 16:39, December 7, 2009 (UTC)

Eyefish & SkyWhale

I'm almost certain that the Eyefish and SkyWhale, which both have conjectural names, are in fact describing the same creature. If they are indeed the same creature, the pages need to be merged and be titled either one of the current titles. User:GerudoValley/sig 19:56, December 19, 2009

True. I guess I'll go ahead and merge them. Thanks for the heads up! It seems the merge was proposed before but seems no action was taken... Ah well, no point in having two of the same article. Dany36 04:21, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Can I put a userbox as my signiture?

The title says it all. Can I put a userbox as my signiture? {{User Linkfavorite}} 21:53, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

You can, but it's not allowed. There cannot be any images within a signature, per the rules. Alter  {T C B H } 22:46, December 29, 2009 (UTC)
Why not???—Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmusial (talk) 18:30, 2 January 2010
Why would you want to? It's annoying and the wikis that use images for talk page posts lag like Link with depleted Magic Armor, Iron Boots on, covered in Ghoul Rats, Ball and Chain equipped, and walking in the snow. O_o User:Axiomist/sig 19:08, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

How to submit new info to this site?

How I want to telll you some minor info about zelda wii. Aonuma has confirmed for this year (source: www.andriasang.com) SMASHKING 09:17, 6 January 2010 (UTC)SMASHKING

Well, if you tried to edit that page, you would see that it was protected, since the game isn't yet released.(Page would be fodder for theory, speculation, and vandalism) But if you want something pasted in, write it up in either the Zelda Wii talk page or here. A staff member will gladly any valid new contributions to it. User:Axiomist/sig 18:23, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
To add information to unprotected pages, you may simply click on the "edit" button at the top of each page. However, there is a system/format as to how the information should be added. I recommend that you look over the Help Guidefor further information. Again, thank you for letting us know! Alter  {T C B H } 18:25, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
The Zelda Wii page is protected to the Autoconfirmed User Level, that means only established editors can edit it. So you are just going to confuse him/her, Alter. The newest contributors will become autoconfirmed by making 200 edits and x time, and not being banned. User:Axiomist/sig 18:33, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Largest Bosses Ever

I've noticed that there are many bosses that are now considered to be 'some of the largest bosses Link has ever fought,' that is in the trivia section of all of said bosses. I think there should be a category listing of all these bosses. Secondly some of the bosses are not exactly that large such as Skeldritch, Eox and Dark Dragon, and should be removed. User:GerudoValley 17:34, January 13, 2010 (PST)

I never really liked that being included in the Trivia sections...but then again, I couldn't really care less about which bosses are the largest. Anyway, yeah, maybe a category should be made instead of having 10 bosses listed in a trivia section saying how they are the "largest bosses ever." Dany36 01:39, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Acount Help

I recently signed up for the zelda wiki and I am finding it different to what i thought it would be. I was going on it to read about the enemys and bosses etc. and was wanting more information. So I thought that if I became a member I would get more information and pictures as well as being able to edit pages. I am wanting to delete my acount and just go on the site to read about the games. How/can I delete my acount?

Please can you respond.

Jamieo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamieo (talk) 14:28, 19 January 2010

Well, accounts can never be deleted due to the nature of wikis. However, your account can be blocked so that you cannot edit with it, if you like.Justin(Talk) 21:06, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
We can't delete accounts. The best solution is to just log out of the account. We don't recommend banning unless necessary. User:Mandi/sig 21:12, January 19, 2010 (UTC)
Your first thought was correct Jamieo. MediaWiki often only shows cached pages to anonymous viewers. So by logging in you update the cache yourself and can even purge the cache so that the most recent view is available next time you come around. User:Axiomist/sig 02:35, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Actually, the wiki's cache is shared with everyone. So, it doesn't matter if you're logged in or not. ;) User:Mandi/sig 19:45, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

All pages on the wiki are cached. Caching is when the wiki takes the latest version of a page, at the time of the cache, and stores it for a quick recall, the software does this for every single page on the wiki. Each page actually has many versions. Each time one is changed, the past versions are still stored on the server. It is highly impractical to show live versions of pages to everyone, or even to all members. This is why the wiki uses caching. What you see when you look at a page is not current version, it is the most recent cached version of the page. There is an option to purge the wiki's cache for a specific page, which updates that pages cache to the most current version. Everyone shares this cache. Some time ago that was added as a button at the top of pages. Everyone, even anonymous users can use that. There is also an option in the user preferences that claims to turn off caching. Observations have proved this option does nothing. As even with it on there were issues with the cache just as always. This is where Axiomist got confused. So I hope I managed to clear things up. Enjoy reading articles.User:Matt/sig 20:06, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

Implied

Hello. I'm from the Mario Wiki and I decided to check out this wiki. The first thing I noticed is that there's no articles for anything implied, like item, characters and places. Does anybody think it would be a good idea to bring this concept into the Zelda Wiki? Reversinator 21:45, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, but we just don't do that. It's part of our quality standards. Personally, I think they'd be a little weird, anyway :/
But thanks so much for coming over here to help out! It's greatly appreciated! :) Justin(Talk) 00:20, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Can't push crate at Telma's Bar after talkng to Louise for Wii

Hello,

I was hoping that you could provide help for the section right after the fight with the Morpheel Mini Boss where in wolf form Link is placed in Hyrule Field and dashes towards the south side of Castle Town where you head towards Telma's Bar and get promptly kicked out then talk to Louise. I have tried without success of pushing the crate up to the other crates and get through the window. I am stuck. Please HELP!!!!!!

Rito Page Typo

On the wiki about Ritos, there is a small spelling error in the first reference. I do not know how to fix it, and it is a quote that calls the Koroks from TWW "Korogs". It seems to be linked to a quote that somebody had on a message board: the actual text isn't up for altering. For future typos in reference sections (in particular), how would I fix them?

--ARedHairedBeauty 03:07, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Seeing as it was the translation given for the quote, I'm assuming it isn't a typo but the literal translation of the Japanese word for Koroks. Seeing as the translator knows more about Japanese than we do, you have no reason to change it at all. Triforce (T C) 03:13, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Biology (theories and in-game fact)

I read Smitie's article on Goron Biology on the main page recently and began to wonder if there was any interest in possibly adding biology sections to some of the races and enemies. Animals on scientific wikis have their biology sections stating how they reproduce, what they eat, approx. life span, etc. I do realize that a lot of this information is already there in another form, but there's always gaps to fill in, I'm just asking if these gaps are important enough for us to fill.

BREEN <i>"Can the destiny of Hyrule really depend on such a lazy boy?"</i> 14:18, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

It would be interesting, however, there is not enough information concerning the biology of races in the Zelda universe that is actually given from the games. We only really know habitat, population/size, and behavior, all of which have already been included in some fashion to the articles in question (i.e. for the enemies, this all falls under characteristics). Good catch though! User:Cipriano 119/sig 14:59, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay, good enough for me =)
