Preferred image name in use

Hello again. A few months back you mentioned to me that Zelda Wiki aims to keep all official screenshots / media archived. I went to upload a new image of Margoma and saw that the current image is from the official Japanese Zelda Twitter account, but its filename was the preferred TFH Margoma Model.png. I uploaded the new one to TFH Margoma Model Large.png and I'm just mentioning this because I don't know how to properly rename then to get the new image showing on all pages, rather than auto-redirecting to the old one. --Htwretched (talk) 19:06, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

I renamed them for you. By the way, you should have a Slack invitation in your email, so you can message me directly about these things once you accept it. TriforceTony (talk) 20:04, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

Spirit Tracks Character names

Just to make sure I don't do anything wrong again, I wanted to ask what I should do regarding the names. I don't have Encylopedia myself, and thus can't double check each character's name.

If the best course of action is that I do nothing and have other people just use my translations if necessary, I'd be fine with that, too. I'd just be happy if the Spirit Tracks characters would no longer have fan-made names like "woman who likes fish" listed there, it feels off. --Kaialone02 (talk) 22:37, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Well, we tend to shy away from using unofficial translations for names (like ハージ (Hāji) being turned into "Hage" without any apparent basis). Most of the time, unless it's clearly a transliteration of an English word/name, we just use direct romanization for names (like Mōrī instead of "Morley" for モーリー). That's the only thing I would think to caution you on. If you can, just try to follow that when adding names and leave the meaning field blank unless the book provides a name origin like "mushroom" for Yamahiko (whose name they switched up with Mash for some reason). TriforceTony (talk) 22:53, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
Also if it's not clear enough, you're welcome to cite yourself for the names. Just try to make the quote field of the Cite web template more direct to the appropriate sections on your blog. TriforceTony (talk) 23:01, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Oh, I was gonna ask you if you were sure you didn't mix up Mush/Mash and Yamahiko, but maybe it's a printing error in one of the two books, or the English translation? And I can adapt to your standards for romanizations, of course. For my personal translations I tend to go for the direct spelling of the origin (like "Mush" because it's from "mushroom" and the Japanese spelling is identical for the name and the word) or for a spelling that's an actual name, for example "Mōrī" is actually how the Western name "Morley" is spelled in Japanese. I mean, we don't call them Rinku and Zeruda either. But I understand that with unoffical translations, more direct romanizations can be better to avoid mistakes arising from speculation.

Anyway, I could go ahead and fix up articles of all the Spirit Tracks characters as best as I can, going with the names you listed. Though I am not sure if I can really cite myself any better considering it's all just one big post? (Unless that's not what you meant)

But I have one more question. In the case of Teacher and the Wise One, would it make sense to make note of ther actual Japanese given names in their articles? Albatross and Merluza respectively, pretty sure about the spelling because they're named a train and a fish. Unless Encyclopedia gives them different English names, too.

Well, either way, thank you for being patient with me.--Kaialone02 (talk) 23:16, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Sorry for the late response, but you can see an example of what I mean by citing here.
If a name is confirmed to be from an English word, you're very much in the right to use the English equivalent (such as Mash's name coming from mushroom). However, if the name isn't from an English word and speculation is required to make the connection (or if the name is confirmed to be from something else entirely, like how Mōrī is directly stated to come from 森), it should be avoided.
With the Teacher and the Wise One, since we go by American English canon above anything else, actual names from the JP canon should be kept to the Nomenclature section. (Basically English titles > Japanese names.) TriforceTony (talk) 20:09, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, i've been digging through obscured redirects and hidden talk pages. Mind becoming a bot to replace all instances of User:Cipriano 119/sig to its location, and delete the redirect? the redirect result can be noticed from pages like this. Cremia2000 (My talk) 23:46, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

BotW Needed Pages

Hey TriforceTony, I was wondering about the articles you said that you were creating with a spreadsheet and all that, and I was wondering what you were using on that spreadsheet. Are you doing only Weapons in Breath of the Wild, or are you doing places and materials and everything else? Thanks! Magicmason1000 (talk) 04:54, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

I've already done all the locations to a bare minimum level of quality so they're fair game. Though I welcome you to take part in our Wiki Weekly events that we currently have every Sunday morning over on our Discord server. We work on Breath of the Wild locations together as a team since it's much faster that way. Everything else (like items) still has yet to be done just yet, I'm afraid. TriforceTony (talk) 01:24, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Breath of the Wild soundtrack

Is it ok if I upload ogg files from the BotW soundtrack? Zeldafan1982 (talk) 19:03, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

(I can't offer legal advice here but) I would say not unless it's to actually demonstrate something in an article and even then it should only be as much to demonstrate that exact thing (such as leitmotifs). TriforceTony (talk) 21:02, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Full-sized image seems to be unavailable

Hi Tony, I was going to work on some Image Alteration and went to download the full-sized Majora's Mask Deku Link image. But no matter what I do, it gives me a compressed 584x688 copy instead. I've tried on multiple browsers and clearing the cache, but same thing. Anyway I'm just bringing it to your attention because you uploaded the most recent version of it, albeit several years ago. Htwretched (talk) 01:35, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

The prior version of that image is available. Do you recall if the latest version was just a crop? I would have assumed so, but its file size is larger. Htwretched (talk) 00:31, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
I'm pretty positive it wasn't just a crop. Link Lab explained it elsewhere but it's a result of the file being moved. This is something that's affected a few other files and it's one that Gamepedia has been alerted to, so hopefully it can be resolved soon. Unfortunately as it is now I don't believe we can access the proper file just yet. TriforceTony (talk) 03:02, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Deleted ogg files

Hello. I saw that you removed ogg files from pages. What was the reason? Zeldafan1982 (talk) 18:23, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

It's for legal reasons, I'm afraid. It's nice to have access to the in-game tracks but unless we have an actual purpose for displaying them, we're effectively walking the line of hosting music for the sake of distributing it. We don't want to earn Nintendo's ire, so the main option is simply removing them unless we can justify their presence. TriforceTony (talk) 13:41, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

Edit Summary Clarification

Hi, I was hoping you could expand on this edit summary for me, because it doesn't really make sense. --Hoennmaster08 (talk) 04:04, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

I think the idea is that BotW is an open world game allowing you to use items and such to elevate yourself up in the air. So a single location isn't true as you could use game mechanics to see all of them from almost anywhere on the map. MannedTooth (talk) 19:14, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
That's just not true though. There are plenty of landmarks that block certain towers from certain areas. For instance, if you are in most of East Necluda you can't see most other towers because of the Dueling Peaks, and Gerudo Tower cannot be seen from most locations because the Gerudo Highlands rise above it. I was bored but wanted to play the game one day so I visited all of the highest points in the game (Hebra Peak, Death Mountain, Dueling Peaks, Gerudo Highlands, and Mount Lanayru) and even if you use Revali's Gale, there is always at least one tower that you cannot see. --Hoennmaster08 (talk) 06:06, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Translation pages

Hey Tony, I'm currently editing the translation pages for Phantom Hourglass in conjunction with the "Nomenclature" sections of the respective pages. If a row contains at least one deviation (in terms of meaning) from the English name, should I fill the rest of the row with the meaning "Same as English." (using it the way you told me recently) or the English name itself? Because leaving them empty entirely seems inconsistent, as if information was missing. - Weirdguy42 (talk) 14:24, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Locked page requests and question

On Zelda Wiki:Canon Policy, "Super Smash Bros. series" should be listed as one option, as with the Tingle games (or at the very least, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate should be added). Speaking of canon, why did you add the non-canon template to Tingle Tuner? Where was it confirmed to be non-canon? Rjd1922 (talk) 02:38, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

Also, on Template:Bosses, replace The Wind Waker and Majora's Mask icons with File:TWW Wind Waker Artwork.png (official render already used on Template:Songs) and File:MM3D Majora's Mask Artwork.png (updated artwork) respectively. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rjd1922 (talk) 17:30, 7 April 2019

No, the Super Smash Bros. series should not be listed as one option. That page you are referring to is being phased out and replaced with the equivalent guidelines.
The Tingle Tuner is not canon because it was removed in The Wind Waker HD. The Wind Waker HD is the latest in the canon of The Wind Waker.
In the future it would be best to request for actions to protected pages on their talk pages. I will see about the templates you mentioned. TriforceTony (talk) 00:13, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
I did bring it up on Zelda Wiki talk:Canon Policy, but didn't get a response. Rjd1922 (talk) 02:38, 8 April 2019 (UTC)

Could you please update The Wind Waker and Majora's Mask icons on Template:Bosses to make it consistent with Template:DungeonNav2 and Template:Translations? Also, Template:MammalianEnemy has a picture of a White Wolfos, but it's linked to normal Wolfos. I also think File:TP White Wolfos Model.png looks better. rjd1922 (talk) 06:06, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Why did you remove the MammalianEnemy image entirely? All the other enemy templates have an image on the right. rjd1922 (talk) 21:24, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
Among the staff we're going to be discussing the pros and cons of using images like that and I'm using that template as a basis for discussion. If we decide to continue the practice I'll be sure to add the new one back in. TriforceTony (talk) 20:24, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Template:Figurine problem

Something is going on with this template. Using google I found six pages that have the same error: Lua error: Error: unclosed string literal.. The pages are: Maggie's Father, Mila's Father, Mama's Cafe, Link's Grandma, Killer Bees and Vaati. Zeldafan1982 (talk) 20:50, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Hey there, thanks for bringing this up, I was already aware of that issue, I simply didn't get to it until now. It should now be fixed! Thanks again! :) MannedTooth (talk) 00:42, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

Proper Time References

Please compare the edits to the Blood Moon page, made tonight by both myself and Brynn13, to determine the correct language to refer to time periods.

Re: Malice

We already have a page for Malice, though. Wouldn't a page just for the pools be redundant?
-Mugen Kagemaru (talk) 00:43, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Malice covers various things such as the substance in general as well as monsters made of it (such as Glowing Eyeballs). Pools of Malice are specifically the dangerous obstacles that can be found along the ground in Breath of the Wild. TriforceTony (talk) 00:48, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

Two questions

Why is File:CoH Tile.png locked? I made a 230×125 tile from the icon artwork which I believe is much better than the current, which comes from a trailer screenshot. Also, File:CoH Unnamed Character Sprite 7.png is a young Ganondorf, seeing as he's the only male Gerudo and plays an organ like in OoT; should this be mentioned? rjd1922 (talk) 16:23, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Files and pages relating to the Main Page should always remain locked to prevent abuse, so that's probably why it isn't accessible. Looking at that artwork, it probably would serve as an acceptable replacement. Could you upload the file in the Cadence of Hyrule channel on the Discord?
Regarding Ganondorf, it's implied but not stated. In this instance, it would be a bit of a leap to say it's necessarily Ganondorf because he is never actually named in-game. We can probably include a Cadence of Hyrule section about the child on Ganondorf's page, but we should stop short of calling him Ganondorf. TriforceTony (talk) 16:57, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
I uploaded it to Discord; what do you think? rjd1922 (talk) 04:42, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
It's uploaded over the old one now. The source on the original file needs to be fixed, though. It should link to the web page where it was obtained, not the file designation on the website. TriforceTony (talk) 16:53, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
I fixed that. rjd1922 (talk) 19:30, 25 June 2019 (UTC)

Why No Enemy Counts?

I counted up the bulblin enemy counts for the Goron Temple and added the information, but my edit was rescinded. What's the rationale behind not having enemy counts? Other wikis (Mario, Pikmin, Doom, etc.) all have counts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Snarkybobo 15:31, 28 June 2019

Please remember to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~).
We previously discussed and agreed that it is sufficient to simply list an enemy if it is present at all. It's important to keep in mind that Zelda Wiki's policies and style are not influenced by its peers, so how other wikis approach their own content isn't necessarily our concern.
Many Zelda games have their own unique way of handling how they spawn enemies that are quite probably foreign to the other wikis you mentioned. As many of Zelda Wiki's policies and style decisions are made to reflect the series it covers, that format is invariably going to prove problematic. If it were something we were to implement, it would have to be carried out in a careful and calculated manner as to avoid any potential issues (such as locations where enemies can spawn infinitely, or spawn based on certain conditions or randomly).
I think it's something worth considering, but I don't think it's something we should be adding until it's been given the proper amount of thought with regards to our own series. It might work well for Mario, Pikmin, or Doom, but the context and potential application changes for The Legend of Zelda series. TriforceTony (talk) 19:47, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
If there's a change in attitude and editors want to tackle the job of enumerating enemies, feel free to message me. I would be willing to devote a considerable amount of time and effort in determining accurate counts for dungeons. I don't think it would be that difficult if we got a crew of dedicated guys on it for a couple weeks. Snarkybobo (talk) 22:27, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Snarkybobo
I will definitely let you know if there is a change. If you have a Discord, I could let you know on that platform instead. TriforceTony (talk) 23:38, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

Should we still call them Fates?

Hello! I was wondering about what we should call the Fates/Fortune Teller ladies from Cadence of Hyrule. I've just beaten the game and apparently they're listed as "Fortune Teller" under the game's credits and are played by Elspeth Eastman (at least in name, not sure where they speak or make noise within the game), so should we change it or just keep their name to Fates? Whyguyswhy (talk) 00:16, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

Some of us had this exact discussion elsewhere but it essentially amounted to this: stuff you find directly in-game takes precedence over credits and out-of-game material. TriforceTony (talk) 16:57, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

BotW minor NPC characters

I'm seriously struggling to understand why you undid everything i just did. I'd *sort of* get it for characters who formerly had a full model picture (even if the quality is, personally, abyssmal, so no I don't get it really), but when the character has... straight up no picture? What's the logic here. Even if you might get better images of the model in the future, having something you can actually look at in the mean time harms no one. And this renders every screenshot I had originally planned to upload useless (That's like 70+ portraits) --Goldythedoomed (talk) 23:55, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Sorry for not responding quickly to this, I'm pretty busy today.
Essentially the situation boils down to our article standards, which dictates that we keep model shots in the infobox (it's more complicated than that, but it's true for these pages) and everything else is secondary to that. As we already have model shots for most of these characters, we don't need closeup shots of them as well as that's redundant (instead we just need better model shots). In the event that there's no model shot whatsoever, even a closeup shot could be used (though it will need to be replaced) while we work on getting a better, full body shot. These should be uploaded as the model shot, and not as a "closeup". Pursuant to that, I've restored the Canni upload and moved it to the proper name. TriforceTony (talk) 00:52, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

It was difficult but it is finally split!

I tried to merge OOA and OOS sections following other weapons article's examples, but then you told me they have to stay separate and that if there are any merges already, they should be split. I have followed your advice and done that in the Master Sword's article. What do you think about it? Have a good day. --SilentResident (talk) 02:59, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

I'm so sorry for not responding to this sooner. I don't remember ever getting the notification, so something may be up with the system. I think the changes you made are good, though, thanks for asking. 😃 TriforceTony (talk) 01:00, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

Mysterious Pond and Medicine of Magic

I found something that I think is missing from the Mysterious Pond and Green Potion pages for A Link to the Past. I was thinking about the pond for no reason and wanted to know if there was other stuff I could throw into it (that I didn't know about / remember) and I know that the empty bottles give you stuff but I didn't find it on the wiki.

If you throw an empty bottle into the pond, the fairy will return it filled with Medicine of Magic (Green Potion).

Now that think about it, the Empty Bottle page might be a good place to have that as well.

I wasn't sure if that info was there in the past but then was removed for some reason. I didn't see a discussion or talk page on that.

I don't know anything about how this wiki is set up or the other places that this might need to be added to. I also don't know the proper way to go about adding that / confirming that before it gets added.

Didn't want to step on any toes and this wiki is massive across many, many games.

Is there an admin or other user that would be the best person to talk to about adding this?

Thanks, GS877 (talk) 17:09, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Feel free to add it to the relevant pages (those three you mentioned). If whatever you add needs corrections we can always just make those afterwards. TriforceTony (talk) 01:01, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
Will do. I don't have a way to get the video of it but I found this youtube video online showing the text of what is said. You can see the bottle thrown in at 3:37 and it shows all of what happens.
Thanks for your help.

BotW Armor Pages

Hi, I noticed on the Armor talk page that you mentioned there being a standard format for BotW Armor. Is there a template for these? I noticed that the set pages and individual pages differ slightly in terms of template (e.g. Hylian Set vs. Hylian Hood), with the set page just showing materials for upgrades, and the individual pages showing resale value as well. Thanks! Jamukdos (talk) 12:30, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

I don't actually remember if we had an agreed upon format (there's early examples of what is ideal), but there's a few things we actually need to get out of the way to make a template for these articles. Namely we should be storing all of the cost/stat data with Cargo so that we can retrieve them elsewhere in different contexts (like sets and individual armor pages) with specific templates. I've already asked someone who can help work that out, so hopefully we can see some progress on that soon. TriforceTony (talk) 02:03, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

Zeldapedia Plagarism

Why does it matter if the data from Zeldapedia is copied over here? The Zeldapedia was forcibly shut down due to corporate politics, so that information is frozen in time. It is of no use where it is and by bringing it here to update, morph, and grow over time it is of far better use -- especially on pages that are devoid of any content of substance. Both sites use the same Creative Commons license (CC BY-SA) and attribution was given in the description of the history. Кэне_零三 11:51, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Please refer to my message on your talk page. Nothing you said is true. Please do not spread misinformation. Thanks! MannedTooth (talk) 12:34, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
