I'm Chinese.There is a BIG BUG

Hello! I am a Chinese player. Maybe you do not know, Nintendo of China(known as iQue), Hong Kong and Taiwan have been offering Legend of Zelda games officially. As the American version and the English version are difference, Nintendo in Simplified Chinese (China) and Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong, Taiwan) offer versions are independent of each localization team, and its release date, place names, name of the game, Cover, websites are ALL different. Especially the 3DS, the situation is very complicated, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese are translated differently. THEY ARE ALL OFFICIAL GAMES, NOT PIRATED.

Note that both the Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese version, are the Nintendo approved authorized software, not pirated, so they have the right to appear in the wiki being.

However, the current site for the Chinese version of some of the settings is problematic.

In Template:Names in China of the code is "CH", but I tried to use the "CH", the flag is the flag of Taiwan.

Please look at other games wiki sites, like Mariowiki \Bulbapedia , all have a Simplified Chinese (Chinese flag) and Traditional Chinese (Taiwan flag) versions of both languages.

Please note that I am not talking about political things, the game is without borders. But the fact is, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese are not a version . Translation differences are huge, and publishers, producers are different, you can not generally use ch instead.

Now Chinese players, has summed up many Chinese Games All names, places, translate name information, but the frustration on the website is only a "ch", and is a sign of Taiwan's flag, a great blow to the Chinese players to improve wiki enthusiasm.

Suggestions:

Establishment "ch" and "tw" two translations code,

"ch" for Simplified Chinese, using Chinese flag (PRC).

"tw" for Traditional Chinese ,using the flag of Taiwan (ROC).

Again, I'm not talking about politics, the reason is very simple, two versions of the translation, publishers, producers are not the same, and are authorized softwares.

I hope wiki can solve this problem there is a very long time, no one could previously proposed, but with the Chinese game offering more and more, and not like only one language is different from Korea, China and the two languages are officially recognized Chinese, hoping to distinguish wiki can order Chinese and Taiwanese players can improve the wiki.

Thank you!

--wsjskr,one of famous Chinese Zelda fans, sorry for my poor English....

Dark Plague

Hello there! I am a fairly new user, and I have been looking for pages to work on for the wiki that are either in need of repair or in need of making altogether. I noticed when reading the page about Hyrule that one of the event pages, the "Dark Plague," is one of the only ones that has not been created. I went to the page, and it said the page had been protected or deleted or something, and to contact you for assistance. I just finished up a page about the Ancient Battle and am collaborating with several others to put the finishing touches on it, but I have also been trying to look ahead and seek out another project to work on as it is completed. I thought this would be a good one to turn to since it is the only event on Hyrule's page to not have a page of its own. Can you un-protect it or would you like me to even attempt to work on it at all? If you'd like me to try and draw up a new set of content for the page, I'd be happy to do so. Ghirahim87 16:22, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

I was looking at the latest revisions in the wiki and came here out of curiosity! Regarding the page, do you think it could contain enough info that are not found on the page for FSA? I haven't played the game that's why I'm asking. Given that there is no official name for these events and that they happened during the game, I was thinking that maybe it would be better if the section simply linked to the FSA page, which, if it is missing information, can be expanded. Regardless, the "Dark Plague" section needs some attention. I was a bit reluctant to edit it myself, since, as I said, I haven't played the game yet. Zeldafan1982 18:20, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
The page is protected because it was repeatedly created with vandalism. As far as content goes, I don't even know what it is. My brother lost my copy of FSA, so I haven't played it in forever. If you could draft something up, we could see if it's worth making a page for.Justin(Talk) 18:35, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
I have played the game through several times, at least once a year to celebrate its birthday, as I do with all the games. I think that, given some of the finer details concerning how the events connect from Twilight Princess and on into the game itself, we could come up with a page that is different enough from the game page that it would be a good addition. For example, we know that the game takes place several hundred years after the end of Twilight Princess and that it begins with the reincarnation of Ganondorf, etc. Also, it's worth noting that almost all event pages are going to have large sections that contain similar information to the game pages, that is largely unavoidable. I can try to write up a draft and present it to you guys for your advice and/or approval if you like. Where would you like me to place it though? Is there a place I can work on it here if the page for the event is not available to be altered? Ghirahim87 18:45, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
I would create a personal sandbox page (User:Ghirahim87/sandbox would work just fine) and do it there.Justin(Talk) 18:47, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Deletion Request

Hey while going through the wanted pages I saw a file that was recently deleted but still on a page. When I went there to assassinate the pesky red link myself I was thwarted by the fact that I'm unable to edit the page in question. The Page is Zelda Wiki:The Heart Container/Archive 1 under the topic of Reference Desk. The deleted file is located on the last paragraph on the top line. I know it's not hurting anyone but I still like to remove it from the wanted pages. Thanks in advance. --Shadow Reaper 16:11, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Done! Yay!Justin(Talk) 17:21, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Aw thank you good sir, also just have to say I love your welcome banner but I feel I must point out........that Pinkie Pie is the one pony to rule them all :P --Shadow Reaper 06:40, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
While Pinkie's randomness is often quite entertaining, nopony could be cooler than Rainbow Dash. I mean, come on, she's a girl, but she loves a challenge. Always wanting to be the best... And I really like her mane! But really, if I had to rate the mane six in the order that I like them, it would go something like...
  1. Rainbow
  2. Fluttershy
  3. Twilight
  4. Pinkie
  5. Applejack
  6. Rarity
Just in case anyone wondered about my pony preference. :PJustin(Talk) 10:59, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

RE: Wiki Exclusive

Hey Justin! I just wanted to ask about the status of that Wiki Exclusive I sent you, and if you were able to review it yet. If not, no rush, I just wanted to check in! Thanks! Setras 22:17, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

I was just thinking about this today. I sent you a reply to your email. Sorry about the delay!Justin(Talk) 23:59, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello.

Sorry to bother you. My name is Dr. Pain 99, and I am an established user from fellow NIWA wiki the SmashWiki as well as a former Donkey Kong Wiki administrator. I am contacting you because WiKirby is all but down at this point, and there has been no response from Adam. This is especially concerning because the WiKirby domain name is going to expire soon, and if Adam does nothing about it, WiKirby is gone forever. This is going to seem like quite an unusual request, but I would greatly appreciate it if you used Special:Checkuser on Adam and e-mailed me the IP address so we could potentially track him down and get this problem resolved. I know this is an extreme request, but I view this to be an extreme situation, as an affiliate of ours is potentially going to be gone forever. If you have any other method of contacting him that has not yet been tried (we've tried e-mail and skype already), please don't hesitate to do so. If you have any questions, email me, leave a message on my SmashWiki talk page, or go to SmashWiki's IRC channel. Thank you in advance. Dr. Pain 99 05:22, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Disregard the above. As of now, WiKirby seems back online. Again, sorry to disturb. Dr. Pain 99 07:11, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
Glad it was fixed... somehow. You still need to get in contact with Adam, though. The same thing is just going to happen again unless someone does something. If you're on Skype, my Skype handle can be found here. Otherwise, I'll shoot you an email or something.Justin(Talk) 10:39, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
I don't have a skype. An e-mail will do nicely, thank you. Dr. Pain 99 19:58, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
I've replied, but you might want to check your spam box. The email user function has a tendency to get marked as spam.Justin(Talk) 11:36, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Oddity

Hi Justin! I came across something kind of wierd, so I thought I'd let you know. I made a few edits yesterday, and they showed up in my contributions page, but not in the Recent Changes. I don't know if this is just because the wiki was updating or not, or even if it's really all that significant, but it seemed odd enough that I thought I'd let you know. If it's just a minor glitch, then sorry for taking up space to mention it! :) Setras (talk) 12:59, 18 August 2013 (UTC) EDIT: this one showed up on the page, so yeah, probably just a glitch. Nevermind! :) Setras (talk) 13:01, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, that was my doing. I was trying to get us updated to the latest MediaWiki, so I disabled editing. Now that we've updated, I've re-enabled editing. YAY!Justin(Talk) 13:08, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Minor Error

This is just a minor error but the online user drop box in the recent changes isn't working. The banner says to report something not working to you so yeah.......its nothing big of course but I like seeing who else is on in case I need to quickly report something or just to see what everyones up to. --Shadow Reaper 12:01, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Are you sure? It's working fine for me. Try purging your cache and seeing if that fixes it. If not, try viewing it in a different browser. Speaking of, what browser are you using?Justin(Talk) 13:00, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Internet Explorer......but your right its working fine now must have been a hiccup on my end. --Shadow Reaper 13:18, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Good to know! That's one less thing for me to fix :PJustin(Talk) 13:25, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Ogg Files

Just to make myself completely clear the Advertisements thing was a problem on my side, but not the uploading of ogg files. I don't mean to press you (really!), just making sure that you know the problem :) Also, another minor thing which probably doesn't have to do with the upgrade. The MIME search doesn't seem to work with ogg files. Do you think this is because they are saved under an images folder or it is irrelevant? Zeldafan1982 (talk) 17:37, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Hm... that's bad. It seems that we're missing a codec for them. I'll have to look into that. As for the search thing... I have no idea. I'll add it to my growing list. Thank you!Justin(Talk) 10:48, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
I see that you fixed it quite quickly :) Also, I just noticed that the MIME search does work. It requires application/ogg for the ogg files instead of audio/ogg or audio/vorbis. My bad! Zeldafan1982 (talk) 02:57, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Custom citation buttons

There were those handy buttons that you had created if I remember correctly. They no longer appear though :/ Zeldafan1982 (talk) 02:57, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Indeed they are. They were installed via javascript, so I need to figure out what has changed so I can reimplement them. They must have changed the built-in MediaWiki javascript source. But yeah, I know about this one. Caleb won't stop hounding me about it >.>Justin(Talk) 05:40, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Error creating thumbnail

When uploading Fado artwork I encountered the error: Error creating thumbnail: $1. I tried uploading it more than one to see I it was something one my end, it wasn't. It isn't the file since I've uploaded it to another wiki no problem. I'm not technologically incline, so thanks for any info in advance. Da braviary (talk) 20:11, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

That's... interesting. I'll have to run some tests and check this out. I'm honestly stumped as to what this could mean, so you'll have to give me time to investigate the issue. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!Justin(Talk) 10:41, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Project Hylian Creed

All right, thanks for letting me know! I'll be sure to use that from now on.

Outdated file info categories

Hey, I have been in the process of slowly converting all files in the Category:Copyrighted images section to the newest format due to it being easier to locate low quality images and categorize everything neater. I wasn't aware though if that category section is the only one that lists files that have outdated file categories though, is there any others that I should be aware of so I can add them to my workload? -- Kidbuu4ever (talk) 13:35, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Another error creating thumbnail

Hello again Justin, when I was uploading some beautiful A Link Between Worlds artwork I noticed that the images were giving "Error creating thumbnail: Invalid thumbnail parameters," I'm not exactly sure what causing it or why it happing.Da braviary (talk) 22:01, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

The wiki software has difficulties with large PNGs. We're currently looking into a solution. In the meanwhile, these images can be fixed by scaling them down some.
FYI, that particular error appears when the image is larger than the set limit, which is currently 15 megapixels on Zelda Wiki - that Moblin artwork is ~15.5 MP. We could raise the limit, but the image would just show some other error.
Artwork doesn't ever need to be that big, really.

ZU Forums Staff Boards

Apologies for the big delay on this, but I have created an account on ZU forums, under the name Fizzle, as requested. If you could add me to the staff section, that would be great. While I've been pretty quiet all year (dealing with a lot of personal stuff), my activity is bound to greatly increase once I've played ALBW, this I'm sure. Also, it seems like the Skype chat has moved again, perhaps? I haven't been able to receive updates from any of them. My Skype name has not changed, however, so if I can be added to a new one if there is, that would be awesome. Apologies for the lack of activity. Can't promise I'll be active for awhile either as I'm avoiding spoilers like the plague, but once the game is out I shall be back in action. Fizzle (talk) 20:54, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Sweet zombie Jesus, I'm sorry, Fizz. I forgot about this. I'll tell someone who can get your account in. My bad, man.Justin(Talk) 02:25, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Poe Soul

Could you please explain why you did this, completely reverting my edit with no edit comment and marking it as "minor", when a large portion of my edit was very basic stuff like changing "dozen-or-so" to "approximately fifteen", etc.? I'm a bit shocked, honestly.KrytenKoro (talk) 14:46, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Yikes! That was definitely unintentional, so I reverted it. Sorry bout that!Justin(Talk) 14:48, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Oh thanks! I was really worried I had stepped on someone's toes with that edit.
I did have something I wanted to point you to, though: regarding Zuna, I deleted the theory again because the quality standards state that theories have to have evidence, but because Tetraforce is undeniably a big part of fandom history and should not just be deleted, I had a proposal at Talk:Tetraforce to set up a Community:Discredited Theories article; something that chronicles the history of popular fandom theories that, either due to later canon or simply because the original ignored pertinent info in foreign-language/obscure parts of the original canon, had to be thrown out. The Agahnim c Zuna theory would fit there, I think, and doing this wouldn't require a major rework to our current quality standards. Could you give your opinion on that page?KrytenKoro (talk) 15:01, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not really sure what I did there. I must've edited an outdated version of the page by mistake while doing diff comparisons.
And I did see your post about theories, but I'm not really sure how I feel about that at the moment. I know the quality standards for theories are pretty dated, considering that we never thought about changing them after Hyrule Historia dropped. Perhaps it's time we discussed making changes to them, after all. In any case, I'm a little preoccupied with some server-side stuff ATM, but I'll read through it and put in my two cents later.Justin(Talk) 15:17, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

???????!

What happened yesterday, I was unable to login? --Vaati The Wind Demon (talk) 09:45, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

It affected everyone, including me and the rest of the staff. I did some investigating last night and fixed the problem, though. It shouldn't happen again.Justin(Talk) 14:23, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank You Very Much <(-*v*-)> --Vaati The Wind Demon (talk) 14:26, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Image upload and thumbnail errors

Hi Justin. I recently tried to upload an image of the new Zelda Monopoly but for some reason I always get an upload warning saying:

Could not create directory "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/1/1c".

I tried to upload it yesterday and again today but still get the error. Also, the Hyrule Warriors gallery page is full of thumbnail errors. Chuck (talk) 18:19, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

hello, there, Justin! Thank you for trying to help me...but the error is still there. Whenever I tried to upload a better file of an image it says_ "Could not create directory "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/3/32". Ugh, I've never experienced this problem before in the wiki. :s --Isamisa (talk) 19:24, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Okay, it's fixed for sure. I just forgot to make the images directory writable when I moved servers.Justin(Talk) 10:26, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
It looks that it was fixed, but the thumbnail errors are still there. It looks that this only happens to some Hyrule Warriors images. Chuck (talk) 03:27, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
Pretty much any images uploaded within the past two weeks or so were affected. Most of those just happen to be Hyrule Warriors images. - TonyT S C 06:55, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
^What Pakkun said. Unfortunately, I was unable to recover the backups from our original server, so I had to resort to an older backup I took a few weeks ago. I'm working on a solution to fix this so that we never lose the backups again. It was my fault, and I take full responsibility for it. My apologies.Justin(Talk) 14:43, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
So which is a better option, to upload a new version of the same image, or upload it again with a different name? Chuck (talk) 20:21, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
I believe we're to wait until further instruction, so neither. As far as I know, Justin is attempting to retrieve them. - TonyT S C 21:09, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
^What Tony said. I'm pretty close to retrieving them, actually. Our data from the old server is still intact, thankfully. I should have them back within a few hours! =DJustin(Talk) 14:29, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
Update: All images have been properly restored. There is an issue with the site's javascript now, but I'm investigating that. I should have that fixed within a week, though. Hopefully.Justin(Talk) 23:58, 8 August 2014 (UTC)

100% Completion Page?

The 100% Completion page comes up with a 400 http error when I try to access it. Does anyone know why? -EpicFaceLOL991 (talk) 20:10, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

I know we talked on Skype, but for everyone else's sake, it appears that URLs with the percent sign (%) in them aren't working properly. It's a problem that we had once before a long time ago, so I should be able to perform a quick fix for that.Justin(Talk) 16:37, 13 August 2014 (UTC)

You're Welcome and a Request

I would like to request to have the ability to block those spammers, I check through this site a lot and I can't stand them! --Vaati The Wind Demon (talk) 13:11, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Well, we're certainly still looking for new staff, and I strongly believe in promoting from within. Send an email to webmaster@zeldawiki.org and I'll get in touch with you privately. I would love to have you help us out!Justin(Talk) 13:47, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Uploading Image Problem

Running into a problem when trying to upload a new version of File:The Legend of Zelda Box Set front angle.jpg. I understand that the Maximum file size is 2 MB currently (which wasn't it 4 MB at a point?), and the file I'm trying to upload is 1.04 MB, but when I click the upload file button after filling out all the information, it brings me to this page http://imgur.com/npx16Da . I also have to make the note that it does not stop me from choosing this file, it just stops the uploading.

On a similar note, I have the finished image for File:Misadventures Link logo2.png, but even after compressing, I can only get it down to 3.70 MB without actually shrinking the image size. Should I just make the image a bit smaller til I can get it to fit the size restraint? Thanks for your time. :) --- Pixel TC 15:24, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I keep forgetting to change that setting when I do maintenance. It's back up to 50MB. Go nuts! =DJustin(Talk) 15:38, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Wonderful, thank you. :D I was wondering why it was so low. --- Pixel TC 15:42, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
I spoke to soon, it still brings me to that page I mentioned earlier. Though it does let me pick larger images now. XD --- Pixel TC 15:46, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Still the 413 error? That's new... As you can probably tell, we switched webservers from Apache to nginx. nginx runs a little differently than Apache, so there's probably some setting that has to be changed. I'll see what I can dig up on that.Justin(Talk) 15:52, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Okay, try again. We'll see if this fixed it.Justin(Talk) 15:56, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Same problem. :( --- Pixel TC 16:17, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Okay, one more time. Give it another go.Justin(Talk) 16:48, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Your SMTP server does not send FQDN

Hello,

I am running my own web server which implements a strict anti spam policy. It is also implementing the Best Current Practise IETF RFC 2505.

I noticed that my email address verification did not arrive, so I checked the server logs:

Nov 11 21:57:39 viathinksoft postfix/smtpd[3146]: connect from unknown[23.99.88.86]

Nov 11 21:57:40 viathinksoft postfix/smtpd[3146]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from unknown[23.99.88.86]: 504 5.5.2 <wiki-fpm>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname; from=<www-data@wiki-fpm> to=<......> proto=ESMTP helo=<wiki-fpm>

Nov 11 21:57:40 viathinksoft postfix/smtpd[3146]: disconnect from unknown[23.99.88.86]

Your server is identifying itself as "wiki-fpm". It is recommended to use a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) like zeldawiki.org instead of a local alias, or its IP address. Otherwise, many spam filters will reject the email. If you need help with a postfix configuration, I am happy to help.

--Blackdrake (talk) 21:17, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up! I didn't realize the servers were reporting hostnames instead of FQDNs. "wiki-fpm" is one of our PHP-FPM instances, so I see what's going on. I'm not 100% familiar with postfix config, but it's gotta be as simple as changing a variable. Thanks again for the alert.Justin(Talk) 23:22, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

The Super Mario Wiki's 'Shroom cordially invites you...

It could be anything to help us make our February issue Zelda-themed. The issue will be released February 20th, so we would really appreciate if we could have your submissions before February 13th. You can email them to mwshroom@gmail.com. Feel free to contact us for any questions you might have.
