Editing Other Users' Pages[]
Please desist from editing other users' pages; it's a seriously slippery slope and I believe you've been asked not to before. Despite your assumption, Dany was only making a joke based on the fact that she made such a remedial mistake. Multiple edits[]
Hello! I noticed you've been making a lot of edits to the same pages over a short time. Doing this puts a large strain on our server and clogs up the recent changes. So instead of saving a lot, use the "show preview" button next to the "save page" button. It'll allow you to view your edit for any mistakes so you don't have to make a lot of fixing edits or additional ones! :) - TonyT S C 18:53, 23 July 2012 (EDT)
- Thanks for the advice. Zelda Wiki has 34,415,234 users willing to make contributions to Zelda Wiki, including 4 administrators, 0 bureaucrats, and 0 patrollers. Unfortunately many mistakes occur in editing. These mistakes are called typos. Typos are very common in large wikis like this one. - Do not patronize these people. They are trying to tell you how things run around here in the politest manner possible. Yeah, we all make typos, and sometimes, we have to go back and fix them, but that is what the "Show Preview" button is for, and as mentioned, you can review your work before making an actual edit. There is a lot of work to be done on Zelda Wiki, and not all of the bureacrats, admins, and patrollers are available at all times to look after every edit. They have their own lives. However, patrolling edits is something they have to do, and even without someone making multiple edits all the time, it is a lot of work. Show some common courtesy and lighten the load for them. Some Advice[]
Hey there, Cuddles. Since you've stated several times that you wish to become autopatrol, I thought I'd give you a bit of advice to help you achieve that, from one user to another.
First of all, it shows that you already have a very good knowledge of how wikis work. We would love to see you try to apply this knowledge to the wiki in a way that will actually improve it (i.e. somewhere other than your userpage). Over half of your {{#ec:User:Cuddles}} edits have been to your own userpage; {{#ec:User:Cuddles@legacy41965837|2}} to be exact. That's more edits than most editors make to their user pages in years, and you've only been here for a few months. Over half your edits have not improved the wiki in any way. So we would all like to see you edit the mainspace more.
Secondly, on several occasions you've made edits to the wiki and reverted them right after. You've also made countless minor changes, additions, and removals to your custom CSS and JS and userpage (not to mention archiving your talk page when it really didn't need to be archived). More than anything, this leads people to believe that you're just trying to bring up your edit count without really being interested in improving the wiki. I'm not accusing you of anything, I'm just saying if you continue editing the way you have, it's going to look that way.
So I would like to suggest that from now on you really take your time when making a contribution to the wiki, so that you don't change your mind and revert the edit minutes after. Before submitting an edit, take the time to ask yourself, "How will this edit improve the wiki?" If you can't think of a good reason, you probably shouldn't hit "save page." Make your edits count, because 10 quality edits are infinitely better than 100 poorly-thought ones.
So that's it. Listen to my advice or don't, that's your choice. But please consider it carefully because I'm certain it will take you closer to your goal. — Hylian King [*]
