::Ohh ok, fair enough. Thank you for the information. The website referring to her as Martha definitely gives way more official confirmation as to that being her canon name. Ya, you're right that it's best to leave it as is for now. Once the remake comes out perhaps it will further confirm her name as being Martha or not. Thanks again! --[[User:Vyzor15|Vyzor15]] 00:57, 14 June 2019 (EST)

Okay, might as well ask, for anyone who has played the Nintendo Switch version of the game, Japanese version in particular, does she still lose her bikini top in the Japanese version, or did that end up changed to her losing her necklace in that version as well as overseas?

Name

Is she ever actually referred to as Martha? TheManInTheMoon 21:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Well I do know that she lives in Martha's Bay, so she has to be Martha. If she wasn't, then who would be? Kiriashi 16:21, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Script

Does anyone have a full script of every one of Martha's lines? I need it for a project. I'd prefer the original script, though, not the North American version. It's okay if it's in Japanese. I can translate it.

--Cyberweasel89 22:51, 25 January 2012 (EST)

Well...Zelda Legends doesn't have a translation table for LA (I think), but they do have the original Japanese text dump: link. --Dany36 13:35, 26 January 2012 (EST)
Hm... Doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for. It uses a lot of words I'm not familiar with, so if it does have Martha's dialogue, my Japanese is seriously lacking.
Thanks, though. I appreciate the help.

Got it!

Okay, I got the dialogue. Even translated it as best I could. Shall we use it as source material in the article?

(talks to initially) "When I was swimming in the bay, the waves swept my swimsuit top right off of me and I lost it. If you find it, I will let you take a scale from my tail!"

(Link dives) "Kyaa! Pervert! Pervert!!!"

(talks to with Pink Bra) "Ahh! That’s it! That’s my swimsuit! Give it! Give it back! I will give you a scale as I said!"

That's all that pertain to the censorship from Nintendo of America. The rest is mostly unchaged.

Martha's name is very questionable

So I'd like to discuss and suggest that "Martha" being the Mermaid's name is incorrect. Just because one piece of official Nintendo merchandise referred to her as "Martha", doesn't mean that's her official name. The Zelda Encyclopedia released by Dark Horse never refers to her as Martha. Not in the character page for LA, nor in the item descriptions for the Necklace or the Scale items involved in her part of the trading quest. It only says "the mermaid" or just "mermaid". The old guide book released for Link's Awakening also refers to her only as "mermaid" as well.

The easter egg section of the Piggyback BotW guide referring to Martha's Landing, "Martha is a mermaid encountered in Link's Awakening", just doesn't seem right. The Japanese name of Martha's Landing is just "Martha's Bay", a direct reference to the location from LA and not the supposed name of the Mermaid. I think this is simply a case of the author trying to find a connection, and looking up something like, "Martha Zelda" on Google and coming across all the wikis with her name labelled as Martha. This has already happened with the Super Mario Encyclopedia, where the author used a made-up fan name for an enemy that came from the Mario Wiki.

I'd even like to suggest renaming her character page to just, "Mermaid". There is literally no official material other than the English Piggyback BotW guide that calls her Martha. I think my trivia contribution should be put back the way it was as well. I strongly believe that everyone has assumed her name has been Martha all these years just because of the location she is in. There's not even official confirmation that the translation "Martha's Bay" is correct. "マーサ" could even mean "Mercer". So does that mean her name is Mercer? Of course not, so why would her name be "Martha" when everything refers to her as "mermaid"? She's not even referred to as Martha in the game. --Vyzor15 00:10, 14 June 2019 (EST)

The fact that both Aonuma and Fujibayashi wrote an introduction for the guide suggests that Nintendo was involved in it, so it's not just a random book with fan made assumptions. And in fact there's another official mention of her name: the official Zelda website. Before it was completely revamped, the encyclopedia included in it had a section for Martha, which stated that "Martha is the name of a mermaid who once lived on Koholint Island. Martha's Bay was named after her, and she played a vital role in helping Link to locate the Magnifying Glass." For now, the best thing to do is wait for the release of the LA remake, which will finally give us a proper in-game name for the character. - Chuck * (Talk) 04:49, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
