The River of the Dead is a location in Breath of the Wild.[1][note 1]

Features and Overview

The River of the Dead is a body of Cold Water located on the western portion of the Great Plateau. The River of the Dead is fed by a waterfall originating from Mount Hylia. Due to its altitude and the presence of Cold Water, the air around the River of the Dead is afflicted by a Freezing Climate, which will damage Link if he remains in the vicinity without any Cold Resistance. The River of the Dead flows west and leads off of the Great Plateau, ending in a waterfall leading to the base of the Plateau. Near this waterfall is a Bokoblin camp on a platform built around a Tree. Link can sever ropes suspending a ramp to gain access to the camp. Just before the waterfall is a damaged bridge linking both sides of the River. To cross it, Link can complete the gap by using the Magnesis Rune to move the metallic door leaning on the stone arch's remains. A Raft can be found docked near the center of the River of the Dead. Scattered on the riverbank are Trees, patches of Grass, unlit Campfires and Guardians' remains. A Woodcutter's Axe can be found set in a Tree near the remains of a house, which contains a Korok Leaf and a Cooking Pot.

A cave can be found behind the waterfall that feeds the River. Housed inside the cave are two Treasure Chests which contain a Spiked Boko Bow and a bundle of five Arrows, respectively. Two more Treasure Chests can be found in the waters of the River itself, containing a single Amber each.

Under the bridge at its western waters, a Korok can be found,[3] who will give Link a Korok Seed.

Notes

  1. The River of the Dead was referred to as the Hylia River in the E3 2016 demo for Breath of the Wild.[2] However, as this contradicts the name given in the final build of the game, it is not considered Canon. Additionally, the name "Hylia River" was given to another location in Breath of the Wild.
