The Phantom Hourglass is an item created by Sea King Umiou, and used by Link in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. It protects Link from the curse within the Temple of the Ocean King. Refilling the Hourglass requires that Link collect the Sands of Hours from around the various islands. Whenever Link defeats a boss, his hourglass gets a few extra minutes of sand. Walkthrough writers have proven that you can collect a total of 25 minutes of sand through bosses and treasure chests.
In the final two boss battles, Link gains the ability to use the Hourglass to temporarily freeze time, as long as he has a Phantom Sphere. Ciela, Link's partner in the game, is able to provide phantom spheres for him.
