Permanently Missable Items are Items, upgrades, and events that have limited chances to obtain or experience. If certain decisions are made, specific things are done in the incorrect order, or some changes and events occur in the game, then certain things will no longer be available. This listing is intended for aiding 100% Completion runs.

Main Games[]

The Legend of Zelda[]

TLoZ Old Man Misc

Possible time to miss the Heart Container

Four Heart Containers in each quest are missable if Link chooses the Potion instead of the Heart Container. It is ideal never to choose the Potion, as Link can buy Potions at any time. If he passes up a Heart Container, then it can never be obtained again.

In the Second Quest, there are three rooms that offer Link the choice of either paying 50 Rupees or losing a Heart Container; Link can earn the Rupees back at any time, but not the Heart Container. If Link doesn't have enough Rupees, he can leave the room, find more Rupees, then return when he has enough.

The Adventure of Link[]

Almost nothing is missable in this game, though it should be noted that whenever Link completes a Palace, it turns into stone in the Overworld and he will never be able to enter it again. However, it only turns into stone when he:

  1. Obtains the main Dungeon Item.
  2. Places the Crystal into the Statue after the Guardian battle.

Therefore, if the young hero completes step 2, but not 1, he can still return to claim the Item. However, with both steps completed, the Palace becomes inaccessible, rendering Link unable to return to it to gain additional Experience or collect Treasure Bags.

1-Up Dolls[]

The 1-Up Dolls are also worth noting. It is not possible to miss these permanently, with the exception of the one located in Three-Eye Rock Palace, for the reason written above. Also, when Link does get one, it can no longer be obtained within that save file, even if the player quits and returns to the game. Therefore, it is best to plan wisely when obtaining them all. For instance, it may be more efficient to wait until all of the Palaces have been completed, except the Great Palace, and then go to retrieve them all (Once Link's stats are maxed at level 8 in all three areas — strength, life and magic — the young hero can obtain a 1-Up for every 9000 Experience pointsTriforce piece gained).

Treasure Bags[]

Treasure Bags containing Experience points can only be obtained once each. It is wise to collect them strategically because, once a bag is obtained, the young hero cannot get it another time. Therefore, Game Overs must be avoided at all costs after obtaining any of these set Treasure Bags without leveling up, since either a Game Over cutscene or restarting the game resets Link's Experience amount back down to zero again. With that noted, there are many more Treasure Bags that can be found than Dolls.

A Link to the Past[]

Hyrule Castle Map and Lamp Chests[]

Because Hyrule Castle becomes inaccessible after defeating Agahnim in Hyrule Castle Tower, Link will not be able to obtain the Map if he fails to open the Treasure Chest containing it. Not only that, but there are two rooms on the first floor that Link could fail to visit, resulting in the Map being incomplete. Finally, there is a Chest next to Princess Zelda in the Dungeon that contains either the Lamp (or more likely a Blue Rupee if Link already has the Lamp) which will also become inaccessible after defeating Agahnim. The Lamp is available in three Chests, and because Link needs it in order to progress through the secret passageway, it is not missable, however the Chest next to Princess Zelda is. Link would have to purposely avoid all such Chests, as he has to visit all the rooms containing them as he progresses through the Dungeon, and they are all within plain sight. Failing to explore all the rooms on the Map, however, is an easier mistake to make, as there are two paths through the first floor.

Boomerang Chest[]

If Link does not open the Treasure Chest containing the Boomerang in Hyrule Castle, he will not be able to obtain it from said Chest when the Dungeon becomes inaccessible after defeating Agahnim in Hyrule Castle Tower. However, the Boomerang itself is not permanently missable, as it can be obtained from a Chest in Kakariko Town that would normally hold Arrows. The Chest in Hyrule Castle will then contain Arrows, but will still be missable, although Arrows are freely available elsewhere. If Link does not collect the Boomerang from either Chest, he has the option to get the Magical Boomerang from a Chest in the Village of Outcasts which would normally contain 300 Rupees.

Link's Awakening[]

The Travels of Link[]

Four Photographs out of the 12 in The Travels of Link album in Link's Awakening DX are missable. First, to trigger the photography Side Quest, Link must visit the Camera Shop and speak to the Photographer. After that, the Photographer will show up at various points during Link's adventure in order to take Photographs. It is possible to miss four of these moments forever after a certain point, though. The last three, in fact, are all taken while escorting Marin to Animal Village. They are as follows:

LADX The Travels of Link Photo 9
LADX The Travels of Link Photo 3

1.) The first is the Photograph of Link with Richard in front of the gate to Kanalet Castle. Link must walk to the castle entrance while it is still closed. Richard will then appear and the Photographer will show up to take the Photograph. Link must not step on the switch inside Kanalet Castle to open the front gate until he has obtained this Photograph. (see left)

2.) The second is the Photograph of Link with Marin at the seashore, in the south-westernmost area of Koholint Island. Link must simply go there once Marin starts following him, and the Photographer will appear for the Photograph. (see right)

LADX The Travels of Link Photo 4
LADX The Travels of Link Photo 5

3.) The third is the Photograph of Marin falling on top of Link at the bottom of a well. With Marin following him, Link must jump into the hole one screen north of the Library, then, after landing in the cave below, avoid moving and wait until Marin lands on top of him. (see left)

4.) The fourth is the Photograph in Mabe Village with Link, Marin, and Tarin in front of the Statue of the Flying Rooster. Link must simply go there once Marin starts following him, and Tarin and the Photographer will meet them there. (see right)

For Photographs 2, 3, and 4, Link must not prompt Marin to awaken the Walrus near Animal Village until he has obtained all three. In the case of uncertainty, Link can check the Camera Shop near Tal Tal Heights before parting with Marin.

LADX The Travels of Link Photo 1
LADX The Travels of Link Photo 2

On a minor note regarding Photographs, the very first one that Link takes is not missable, but rather, variable—and whatever choice the young hero makes will be final. During the first dialogue with the Photographer, if Link agrees to take a Photograph, then the first Photograph will be of Link posing with a peace sign. If he continually rejects the Photographer, however, the Photograph will be of a beat-up Link. As previously mentioned, only one of these Photographs can be kept.

Secret Seashells[]

LA Secret Seashell Artwork

Three of the 26 Secret Seashells are missable. Once Link has exactly five Seashells (no more, no less), he must go to the Seashell Mansion to gain a sixth. Likewise, once he has exactly 10 Seashells (no more, no less), he must return there again to gain an 11th. The third missable Seashell is the one near Kanalet Castle's entrance that must be accessed using the Flying Rooster (meaning Link must not complete Eagle's Tower before doing this). As far as rewards for obtaining Seashells go, this is not concerning, however, as Link only needs 20 out of the 26 Seashells in order to obtain the L-2 Sword. After Link has powered his Sword up, all remaining Seashells in the game turn into Rupees, and the slot for Secret Seashells on the Inventory screen disappears. As a result, if Link wants the transitory satisfaction of having all 26 Secret Seashells shown in his Inventory, he must obtain them all before bringing them to the Seashell Mansion. Once again, however, the Secret Seashell icon and number will vanish once Link gets the L-2 Sword.

None of the 50 Secret Seashells in Link's Awakening for Nintendo Switch are missable.

Minor Note[]

LADX The Travels of Link Photo 7

If Link successfully steals from the Town Tool Shop in Mabe Village, he will lose the original name that was created for himself for the rest of the file, as it gets replaced with "THIEF." It is up to the player whether or not give up Link's assigned name like this, however in Link's Awakening DX, Link's name actually has to become "THIEF" in order to complete the photography Side Quest.

Ocarina of Time[]

Castle Courtyard Rupees[]

In the Castle Courtyard, Link can use the Fairy Slingshot in the room with Princess Zelda to fire Deku Seeds into the window on the right side (the one featuring paintings of various Nintendo characters), which awards him with a Red Rupee. This event can only occur once, and the Rupees are missable as Link cannot return to the courtyard after getting all three Spiritual Stones.

Deku Nut Upgrade[]

A Deku Nut capacity upgrade is permanently missable due to a glitch in the Nintendo 64 version of the game, as well as in the Collector's Edition and Master Quest releases, and in the Virtual Console ports. If Link enters the Lost Woods from the Kokiri Forest, goes to the Forest Stage, and dons particular Masks, the Deku Scrubs in the room will offer various types of responses or rewards. Wearing the Skull Mask results in earning the Deku Stick capacity upgrade (this can be obtained at any time), and wearing the Mask of Truth earns Link the Deku Nut capacity upgrade.

The Deku Nut capacity upgrade will work only if Link has not yet obtained the Poacher's Saw in the Adult Link era. If the saw has already been obtained, wearing the Mask of Truth in front of the Deku Scrubs will get a variety of reactions, but will never result in the desired upgrade. As such, Link must not obtain the Poacher's Saw in the Trading Quest until having obtained this upgrade. Contrary to some fan notions, the Running Man in Hyrule Field (to whom Link sells the Bunny Hood, the last step required before Link can obtain the Mask of Truth) can be found before pulling out the Master Sword if Link looks for him after obtaining the Spiritual Stone of Water.

This happens because all the quests in the game have "finisher flags" that mark them as complete. The Poacher's Saw was mistakenly set to the same flag as the Deku Nut capacity upgrade,[citation needed] likely because Item flags tend to be set by area, and both the Saw and the upgrade are technically in the same position. When the Saw is obtained, the game is falsely notified that the Deku Nut capacity upgrade has already been obtained as well, even if it has not. Only the upgrade suffered from this bug and not the Saw, which may explain why it was missed by the game's beta testers, who perhaps always obtained the upgrade before pulling the Master Sword.

This glitch has been fixed in Ocarina of Time 3D.

Piece of Heart[]

If the Piece of Heart in the Heart-Pounding Gravedigging Tour is dug up by Dampé but not retrieved before leaving the area, it disappears and cannot be obtained again.

This was fixed in Ocarina of Time 3D, though it resulted in a new glitch that allows the same Piece of Heart to be collected repeatedly.

Dungeon Map[]

The Dungeon Map for Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly is located behind a Locked Door that is unlocked by a blue Switch. Normally, Link must place Princess Ruto onto the Switch and leave her behind to enter the room, but after completing the Dungeon, Princess Ruto will no longer appear inside Lord Jabu-Jabu, making the Dungeon Map impossible to obtain through normal means. To get into the room after the Dungeon is completed, Link can perform a simple glitch that keeps the door open for longer after stepping on the blue Switch. This is done by releasing Bugs or a Fish from a Bottle, then catching it again, which will cause Link to hold a filled Bottle in his hand. After that, backflipping onto the Switch while releasing the Bugs/Fish in mid-air will cause the door to open, bypassing the need to fully press the Switch.

This was fixed in Ocarina of Time 3D with a small Wooden Box being added to the room, which if needed, can be used to depress the blue Switch after the completion of the Dungeon.

Minor Note[]

One Item worth noting is the Giant's Knife that Link can buy from Medigoron in Goron City for the expensive price of 200 Rupees. It is a blade more powerful than the Master Sword, however it breaks after only eight uses. After Link completes the Trading Quest and obtains the Biggoron's Sword, the Giant's Knife is no longer available to the hero, as Medigoron will not sell it.

Majora's Mask[]

Deku Nut Chest[]

A Treasure Chest containing Deku Nuts becomes unreachable after Link progresses beyond the very first area in the game. It can be found on a platform in the large room preceding the room where Link encounters the Happy Mask Salesman. Even if the Chest is opened, however, it always reverts back to its unopened state when the Song of Time is played.

Oracle of Seasons[]

Ring Box Upgrade[]

The Ring Box L-3 upgrade is permanently missable through a glitch when playing a Linked Game in the Japanese versions of Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages (the European versions fixed this glitch, but it is not currently known if it still affects the North American versions). If a Ring Box L-2 has already been acquired over the normal course of the Linked Game (by receiving it from the Goron at Goron Mountain or by buying it from the Lynna Village Shop), the secret for Farore will not work anymore; it can still be entered on the password screen and a message appears saying that Link has received Ring Box L-3, but Ring Box L-2 will remain in the Inventory. To avoid this, the Ruul Secret or the Symmetry Secret quest must be completed with Ring Box L-1 still in the Inventory. Preferably, the secrets are taken back to Holodrum or Labrynna as soon as they become available (upon completing the second Dungeon in the Linked Game). After upgrading the Ring Box in the Non-Linked Game (the glitch will not happen in a Non-Linked Game, so it does not matter if Ring Box L-1 or L-2 is in the Inventory), a password is received which can then be given to Farore in the Linked Game. This will result in Link receiving the Ring Box L-2 upgrade. From then on, Ring Box L-3 is available over the normal course of the game (receiving or buying, as mentioned above).

Three Gasha Seeds[]

Although Gasha Seeds are infinitely obtainable through various Shops and Minigames, there are also a certain amount of Gasha Seeds in fixed locations in Oracle of Seasons. Three of these can be found in the upper sections of the Maku Tree and will disappear after a while. The first one can be obtained when the Hall of Secrets opens after the completion of the second Dungeon and will disappear after Link completes the third Dungeon. The second shows up after getting the fifth Essence of Nature and disappears after getting the sixth. The third shows up after getting the seventh Essence and disappears after getting the eighth.[1]

Oracle of Ages[]

Three Gasha Seeds[]

Although Gasha Seeds are infinitely obtainable through various Shops and Mini-Games, there are also a certain amount of Gasha Seeds in fixed locations in Oracle of Ages. Three of these can be found in the upper sections of the Maku Tree and will disappear after a while. The first one can be obtained after getting the fourth Essence of Time and disappears after getting the fifth. The second shows up after getting the sixth Essence and disappears after getting the seventh. The third shows up after getting the eighth Essence and disappears after defeating Veran.[1]

Choices Spanning Both Games[]

While these are not missable, some choices must be made throughout the course of the (linked) adventures and will carry over from the first game into the second Linked Game as well.

The first area of decision is the Side Quest involving the growth and development of Bipsom, whom Link gets the honor of naming. Certain decisions that Link makes for Bipsom at one stage of his life will permanently affect the course that later stages of his life will take. The second area of decision is the choice of Animal Companion and their accompanying Flute. Link can choose between three companions — Ricky, Dimitri, or Moosh — and once the choice is made, Link gets that Animal's particular Flute, which means he cannot get a Flute for the other two. The following shows briefly how to choose each particular Animal for Link in each game.

Oracle of Ages:

  • Moosh: Since Moosh is Link's default partner in this game, he simply has to carry on in his quest as normal. Once Link leaves Lynna City (in the present) to the west, he needs to go north once up the steps and use an Ember Seed to burn the bush across the river, activating the Switch that creates a bridge. He then has to go across and north to where Moosh awaits him.
  • Dimitri: To recruit Dimitri instead, Link simply has to buy Dimitri's Flute from the Lynna City Shop (present) for 150 Rupees. He must not burn the bush and activate the bridge Switch north of Lynna City until he has bought said Flute.
  • Ricky: To recruit Ricky instead, Link needs to keep winning the Shooting Gallery Mini-Game in Lynna Village (past) until the prize given to him is Ricky's Flute. He must not burn the bush and activate the bridge Switch north of Lynna City until he has won said Flute.

Oracle of Seasons:

  • Ricky: Since Ricky is Link's default partner in this game, he simply has to carry on in his quest as normal. When Link reaches the area one screen north and west of the tree stump where he originally met Din (this would be North Horon), he must pick up the rock and go north through the gate to where Ricky awaits him.
  • Dimitri: To recruit Dimitri, Link needs to keep winning the Subrosian Dance (after he has won the Boomerang) until the prize given to him is Dimitri's Flute. He must not enter the area of North Horon where he must lift the stone and pass through the northern gate until he has won said Flute.
  • Moosh: To recruit Moosh instead, Link simply has to buy Moosh's Flute from the Horon Village Shop for 150 Rupees. He must not enter the area of North Horon where he must lift the stone and pass through the northern gate until he has bought said Flute.

The Wind Waker[]

20 Rupee Vase[]

In Dragon Roost Cavern, in the room where Medli was being held captive, bombing the back wall of the cell using the Tingle Tuner makes a pot with 20 Rupees appear. This pot becomes missable after Link jumps down from the mountain peak. This pot cannot be found in the HD version since the Tingle Tuner is no longer available and Link has not yet acquired Bombs at this point in the game.

Nintendo Gallery Figurines[]

16 Figurines in the Nintendo Gallery Side Quest can be permanently missable during a playthrough of the game. They are as follows:

  • Six Big Octos can be found in different sectors of the Great Sea; if Link defeats them all before taking a Pictograph of one, it will not be possible to obtain their Figurine.
  • A Pictograph of Cyclos must be taken before obtaining the "Ballad of Gales" from him, as he disappears once he teaches the song to Link. Cyclos's Figurine also includes Zephos, his brother.
  • Phantom Ganon is battled once in the Forsaken Fortress and later on in Ganon's Castle. Link must take a Pictograph of it before defeating it using the Light Arrows during its final appearance.
  • A Pictograph of the Helmaroc King must be taken during the battle against it in the Forsaken Fortress before it is permanently defeated.
  • A Pictograph of Kogoli must be taken before awakening Medli as the Sage of Earth, as he vanishes from Dragon Roost Island after this event.
  • A Pictograph of the Wizzrobe Sub-Boss in the Wind Temple must be taken before it is defeated in order for Link to obtain its Figurine.
  • Tetra's Figurine, which also includes those of her Crew, must be obtained by taking her Pictograph while escorting her to the basement of Hyrule Castle.
  • A Pictograph of Puppet Ganon must be taken during the battle against it before it is permanently defeated. This will also require Link to backtrack out of Ganon's Castle to obtain the Figurine.
  • Knuckle's Figurine is not required to complete the Nintendo Gallery in the GameCube version of the game. If Link wishes to obtain his Figurine, he must do so before obtaining every other Figurine, as Carlov disappears once the Gallery is complete.
  • If any of the above Figurines are missed, the Figurine of Link and the King of Red Lions, which is rewarded by fully completing the Nintendo Gallery, will also be rendered unobtainable as a result.

During the Second Quest, all Figurines obtained during the first playthrough will be carried over, giving Link another chance to obtain any he may have missed. The young hero also starts off the Second Quest with the Deluxe Picto Box, allowing earlier Pictographs to be taken of Tetra on Outset Island and the Helmaroc King during the first visit to the Forsaken Fortress.

In The Wind Waker HD, the Tingle Bottle could be used to send and receive Pictographs between players through Miiverse, even those of subjects that had already been missed in the current playthrough. Since the service has been discontinued, however, this is no longer an option.

Blue Potions[]

Link needs to bring 15 samples of Blue Chu Jelly to Doc Bandam in the Chu Jelly Juice Shop at Windfall Island in order to be able to purchase Blue Potions. There are only 23 Blue Chu Jellies in total which can ever be obtained throughout the Great Sea, so if the young hero sells more than eight of them to Beedle before unlocking the Potion, this objective can never be completed.

The Minish Cap[]

Light Arrows[]

If Link arrives at the Home of the Wind Tribe via Veil Falls without having already saved Gregal from the Ghost, Gregal will die, rendering the Light Arrows unobtainable as they are the reward for saving Gregal. To obtain the Light Arrows and the reward of 100 Mysterious Shells, Link must warp to the Tower of Winds and rid Gregal of his Ghost before riding the whirlwind to the Cloud Tops.

Kinstone Fusion[]

In the PAL version of the game, one Kinstone Fusion becomes impossible to obtain after a certain point, resulting in the loss of one Empty Bottle, an appearance by Biggoron, and the Mirror Shield. The source of this problem lies with Eenie, a farmer in the Eastern Hills region. If Link begins to fuse with him but then quits and leaves the area, a glitch will occur, causing the game to never give the option to perform the Fusion again. This glitch is not present in the Japanese or North American versions of the game.

Chest[]

A frozen Chest located in the tunnel underneath the Royal Hyrule Library in Hyrule Town can become missable. This Chest is frozen in a block of thick Ice, requiring the Lantern to thaw. Once Link has obtained the Lantern, he can revisit the tunnel by shrinking himself using a Minish Portal on the second floor balcony of the Library and descend the vines to the nearby water canal, where the tunnel's entrance is. Both the tunnel and its Chest, however, are impossible to access once the Library and its Portal become inaccessible later in the game, when Link returns to the Elemental Sanctuary with the fourth Element and fuses his Sword into the Four Sword. As such, the young hero must not obtain the Four Sword until after he has opened this Chest.

Carlov Medal[]

The Carlov Medal can become permanently unobtainable under certain conditions caused by a glitch. If Link obtains all of the Figurines that he can currently get and attempts to draw the lottery again, the chance that he will get a new Figurine will be 0%. However, it is possible for Link to still get a new Figurine. If this happens, the new Item sound will play and the Figurine will be added to the collection case on the left, but Carlov will act as if though it is a repeat and pay Link five Rupees. The significance of this is that despite being added to the collection case, the Figurine is not considered to be obtained by the game. Once Link obtains all 136 Figurines, Carlov does not award Link with the Carlov Medal, but instead, says that there is still a 1% chance of getting a new Figurine. That 1% chance is the glitched Figurine that Link should not have gotten.

To avoid this glitch, Link must not draw again after Carlov falls onto his back and informs him that there are no more new Figurines to get. Doing so may cause Link to get a glitched Figurine of something he has not encountered yet, resulting in the Carlov Medal becoming unobtainable.

Charms[]

While they are not missable, some choices must be made throughout the course of the adventure regarding the Charms. The Charms are three Items of which only two at the most can be obtained. They are granted to Link by the three Oracles,[2] provided he first finds Vacant Houses for them. Because there is no third House in the game, one will have to choose which two Charms he prefers to have. The Charms are carried in Empty Bottles.[3]

Twilight Princess[]

Letters[]

OocooLetter

Letter from Ooccoo

Two out of the 16 Letters from the Postman can be missed:

  • The first is from Ooccoo, and says that she was happy to meet Link and will appear again at a different location. She also adds a P.S. about her Son. Link gets this Letter after completing the Forest Temple as long as he obtains her, but does not use her to warp out.
  • The second Letter is also from Ooccoo, and says that she was happy to meet up with Link and see her Son again, concluding by saying she will be going to another location. Link can get this Letter after completing any Dungeon from the Goron Mines to the Temple of Time by obtaining and using Ooccoo in that Dungeon.

Ordon Shield[]

The Ordon Shield becomes permanently lost if it is burned by Fire. If this happens, Link can purchase a Wooden Shield that is functionally identical to the Ordon Shield, but has a different name and a different design.

Soups[]

Simple Soup and Good Soup are rendered unattainable once Yeto cooks up Good Soup and Superb Soup, respectively.

Phantom Hourglass[]

Eddo's Letter and Ship Part[]

After the third visit to the Temple of the Ocean King, the Salvage Arm must be purchased. Upon approaching a Mailbox, Link receives a Letter from Eddo notifying him that the Salvage Arm is ready.[4] However, the better course of action is to go directly to Eddo and buy the Salvage Arm before checking the Mailbox. If this is done, the Letter will instead thank Link for his purchase, and a bonus Ship Part will be included.[5]

Heart Container[]

A Heart Container in a Treasure Chest can become missable under some specific conditions. After defeating the Cubus Sisters on the Ghost Ship, the reward will be the usual Heart Container in a large Treasure Chest. However, because the Ghost Ship is the one Dungeon that can never be revisited, it is possible to bypass this Chest and go on without it. Fortunately, if Link does bypass it, the Postman shows up and attempts to deliver it to him, asking him if he wants it. Choosing "Yes" allows Link to receive the Heart Container, while choosing "No" instead renders it gone permanently.

Treasure Chests on the Ghost Ship[]

There are some Treasure Chests on the Ghost Ship that can be permanently missed. One contains a random Treasure, one contains ten Rupoors, and a couple of others contain either Potions or Rupees. There are also two Crystals, at least one of which is optional. Once Link has completed the Ghost Ship, it cannot be revisited, rendering all of these Items permanently unobtainable.

Skyward Sword[]

Isle of the Goddess Treasure Chest[]

There is a small Treasure Chest containing 20 Rupees along the pathway winding around the Isle of the Goddess. Although it is hard to miss at the beginning of the game because Fi leads Link past it, the Chest disappears once the Sky Keep is revealed.

Cawlin and Peatrice's Gratitude Crystals[]

While no Gratitude Crystals are permanently missable, the methods for obtaining some of them and the consequences of Link's choices are mutually exclusive. When delivering Cawlin's Letter, Link has the option to either give it to Phoeni or to Karane. If given to the former, Phoeni will appear in Groose's room at night with Cawlin. If given to the latter, Karane and Pipit will begin dating.[citation needed] Once one option has been chosen and the consequences realized, the other cannot occur.

Likewise, during the Side Quest involving Peatrice, Link can either reciprocate Peatrice's feelings or reject her. If he chooses the former, she addresses him as "darling" for the rest of his journey and her father laments that she is in love.[citation needed] If Link chooses the latter option, she will talk to him normally and Peater expresses how happy he is that his daughter is no longer in love.[citation needed]

Sky Keep Goddess Wall[]

A Goddess Wall is available for activation in the second room of the Sky Keep. Once the Dungeon has been completed, however, Link will lose his chance to activate it, as the Dungeon can no longer be revisited.

A Link Between Worlds[]

Rosso's Chest[]

When Link obtains the Power Glove from Rosso, he asks the young hero to clear the area around his House. Once Link destroys all the small rocks on the outside, Rosso will make a Treasure Chest appear in his House containing 50 Rupees. This cannot be done after completing the Tower of Hera.

Tri Force Heroes[]

While no collectible items are missable in this game, Vol. 6 of the Drablands Diary can no longer be found among the townsfolk after Princess Styla's curse is lifted.

Breath of the Wild[]

Old Man's Interactions[]

On the Great Plateau at the beginning of the game, the Old Man can be found at his Cabin, in the Forest of Spirits, and atop Mount Hylia only before obtaining the four Spirit Orbs from the Ancient Shrines on the Plateau. After this, he is no longer at these locations.

Zora Interactions[]

Several Zora interactions can be missed if you advance through the game too fast and start the Reach Zora's Domain quest without speaking to them. These Zora are Tona, Ledo, Gruve, Torfeau, Tottika, and Tula. A conversation with Douma can also be missed.

Great Plateau Warm Doublet[]

There are three methods for obtaining a Warm Doublet at the Great Plateau, two of which involve speaking with the Old Man. It can be received either by talking to him atop Mount Hylia or by making a dish of Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry using Spicy Pepper, Raw Meat, and Hyrule Bass, and giving it to him at his Cabin. If Link does not get the Warm Doublet using either of these two methods before obtaining the four Spirit Orbs on the Plateau, a Treasure Chest containing it will appear in the Old Man's Cabin. Regardless, the Warm Doublet itself is not missable, as it can be bought in Hateno Village.

Divine Beast Treasure Chests[]

The interiors of the four Divine Beasts cannot be revisited once Link has activated their main Terminals, as they subsequently take aim at Hyrule Castle with their lasers and are deemed too dangerous to approach. As such, the contents of any Treasure Chests still inside them become unobtainable. All of these Chests are optional, however, as they contain items such as Rupees, Weapons, and various Materials, which can be recuperated from elsewhere across Hyrule Kingdom.

Champion's Tunic[]

If Link's Armor Inventory is full using all 100 slots when he obtains the Champion's Tunic from Impa, it will not appear in the Inventory, and will not be possible to obtain again from her, rendering it permanently unobtainable. Interestingly, if Link's Armor Inventory is full when receiving the Zora Armor from King Dorephan, this is not the case.

Thunder Helm[]

Similarly to the Champion's Tunic, if Link receives the Thunder Helm while his Armor Inventory is full, it will not appear in the Inventory nor will it return to its pedestal, rendering it permanently unobtainable.[6]

Lynel Weapons[]

Aside from the Lynel atop Ploymus Mountain, the Blue-Maned Lynel in the First Gatehouse, and the White-Maned Lynel in the Second Gatehouse, all Lynels permanently scale up based on a hidden point system which is determined by the number of Enemies that are slain. The Lynel in the Coliseum Ruins is an exception, as it scales upon completing each of the Divine Beasts. Consequently, the equipment they wield scales alongside them and can become permanently unobtainable.

After every possible Lynel has scaled to a Blue-Maned Lynel or greater, Lynel Crushers and Lynel Spears can no longer appear. As the Lynel atop Ploymus Mountain remains unscaled, it is still possible to obtain Lynel Swords, Lynel Shields, and Lynel Bows from it. Once every Blue-Maned Lynel has scaled to a White-Maned Lynel or greater, Mighty Lynel Crushers and Mighty Lynel Spears can no longer appear. As it is possible to obtain the equipment from the Blue-Maned Lynel in the First Gatehouse,[note 1] it is still possible to obtain Mighty Lynel Swords, Mighty Lynel Shields, and Mighty Lynel Bows.

To account for the automatic scaling in Master Mode, Blue-Maned Lynels bear basic Lynel equipment and begin scaling from there. Additionally, Enemies other than Lynels that have been introduced in Master Mode can be found wielding Lynel equipment, such as a Blue Bokoblin that wields a Mighty Lynel Bow at Boneyard Bridge and a Blue Lizalfos that wields a Lynel Spear at Sokkala Bridge. Because of these Enemies, it is only possible to miss Lynel Crushers, Mighty Lynel Crushers, and Mighty Lynel Spears in Master Mode.

Forest Dweller's Swords[]

Forest Dweller's Swords only appear in Treasure Chests and as part of The Test of Wood. As such, if they are all collected and then destroyed or lost, they become permanently unobtainable. Link can repeat The Test of Wood to rent one for 20 Rupees for the duration of the Test, however he will not be able to keep it.

Kite Shields[]

Kite Shields only appear in Treasure Chests and as one of the rewards from Selmie's Advanced Shield-Surfing Course. As such, if they are all collected and then destroyed or lost, they become permanently unobtainable.

Critical Hit Modifier[]

The Critical Hit modifier, which causes the last hit in a succession of hits from a Weapon to deal twice as much damage, can only appear before a certain amount of experience in the game's hidden point system is gained from defeating Enemies. After this threshold is met, Weapons with this modifier can no longer appear.

Other Games[]

Hyrule Warriors[]

Giant Bosses Tutorial[]

In version 1.6.1 or earlier, during the first playthrough of The Armies of Ruin Scenario in Legend Mode, if King Dodongo is defeated before it reaches the West Field Keep, the Giant Bosses Tutorial pop-up message will not appear, resulting in its entry never being unlocked in the Tutorial Menu, as well as never randomly appearing during loading screens in Adventure Mode and Free Mode.
