Natzu Wasteland is a location in Oracle of Seasons. It is located in central Holodrum at the base of the northern mountains. Natzu Wasteland is one of three possible variations depending on which Strange Flute Link has obtained, along with Natzu Prairie and Natzu River. Link must traverse through the area if he befriends Moosh and obtains his Flute, who is necessary to navigate the Wasteland's landscape. If Link obtains Ricky's Flute or Dimitri's Flute, then the area will instead become the Natzu Prairie or Natzu River, respectively.

Features and Overview

Natzu Wasteland is a stretch of land in central Holodrum that features an arid terrian and tropical trees. It is surrounded by a small river that isolates it from the rest of Holodrum. It lies directly north of North Horon and Holodrum Plain. The Wasteland is connected by a crossroad to the west, which sits between Holodrum Plain and the Temple Remains. Natzu Wasteland is initially barred off from entry, as the drawbridge crossing the river has been drawn. The bridge is lowered by a red Switch over the river, which can only be reached by taking an alternate passage through Holodrum Plain once Link has obtained the Roc's Feather. Natzu Wasteland can also be entered north of Blaino's Gym, however the road ahead is covered in pitfalls. The Wasteland is stuck in perpetual Spring, as it lacks a Tree Stump to change the Seasons with.

Natzu Wasteland is one of three possible variations of the area, which will change to accommodate the abilities of Link's chosen animal companion, whom Link is unable to navigate the area without. Natzu Wasteland is the result if Link has befriended Moosh and obtained his Flute. The Wasteland features a number of pitfalls that are too wide to cross with the Roc's Feather alone, requiring Moosh's flight ability to clear over them.

A stairway leading to an underground Fairy Fountain is located close to the Wasteland's bridge. Another stairway is found in a valley after crossing a series of pitfalls, where inside a singing Deku Scrub will upgrade the capacity of Link's Seed Satchel. In a Linked Game, the Deku Scrub will give the upgrade after being told the Deku Secret. A third cave sits in a small strip of land over the Wasteland's river, which can be entered from stairs leading into the water. A Treasure Chest inside containing 50 Rupees sits on the other end of a large gap, which can only be crossed via moving platforms.

The Wasteland ends at the Moblin's Keep to the east, where the Great Moblin threatens trespassers to pay his toll by blasting them with cannons.[1] Beyond the Keep is Sunken City, whereupon Moosh will leave Link as he is afraid of all the water.[2]

Nomenclature

Natzu is derived from ナッツ (Nattsu), which is part of the Japanese name for Deku Scrubs, デクナッツ (Deku Nattsu). This may be in reference to the lone Deku Scrub who resides in one of the caves.
