The Magnifying Glass as seen in the book
Princess Zelda can only access the room where the Magnifying Glass is located if she received the Witch's Ring from the Tree Witch in the Forest. Once she opens up the locked door by placing the ring on the keyhole, she will step into the small, empty chamber, causing for the door to close behind her; however, the door opens again after the chamber turns, and Zelda quickly exits to see a small room with nothing except a winding staircase. Zelda climbs the stairs and finds a door at the top as well as a Magnifying Glass in the middle of a table. She looks at the glass and thinks about the riddle of the Fairy's Scroll, just then realizing that the answer to the first part of the riddle is "sun."
- "'The ring,' Zelda says. 'The one the tree witch gave me!' [...] 'It's the same shape as the keyhole!' [...] The crystal fits smoothly into the keyhole and the door springs open." (The Crystal Trap (Archway), pg. 23)
- "A thin shaft of light falls from the ceiling onto the tabletop. Something shining there catches Zelda's eye. 'A magnifying glass!' Zelda says, surprised." (The Crystal Trap (Archway), pg. 15)
- "Zelda looks at the glass and thinks about the riddle of the fairy's scroll. 'What's hotter than fire?' she asks herself. Then suddenly she snaps her fingers. 'I know the answer!'" (The Crystal Trap (Archway), pg. 15)
- "'Heat!' Zelda cries. She takes the magnifying glass and holds it in the light above the honey. Under the heat of the magnified sunglight, the crystal begins to turn colors--first blue, then gold, then red. Bbrr-r-room! With a terrific crash, the crystal splits open!" (The Crystal Trap (Archway), pg. 75)
