Gesane is a character in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.[2]
Biography
Gesane is a Rito guard who patrols the lowest entrance of Rito Village. He carries a Feathered Spear and continuously paces the bridge closest to Rito Stable.
When Link first speaks to Gesane, he greets him and asks if he needs something.[3] Link asks who he is, so Gesane introduces himself.[4] When Link asks about the Rito, Gesane recites a saying about the Rito and is surprised Link has never heard it.[5] He encourages Link to visit Rito Village, should he have a chance.[6]
Once Link has obtained the "Divine Beast Vah Medoh" Main Quest, he can ask Gesane about Teba's whereabouts. Gesane reveals that Teba left for the Flight Range to prepare to avenge Harth.[7] He explains that, since the Flight Range is where Rito warriors train, Teba went there to stock up on Bows and Bomb Arrows.[8] If asked about the Flight Range, Gesane directs him to Dronoc's Pass on the other side of Lake Totori.[9] Due to the difficulty of traveling around Lake Totori, Gesane suggests Link take the western path.[10]
After Divine Beast Vah Medoh has been calmed, Gesane will note that Link has come at a good time now that the trouble is gone.[11] He asks if Link needs something,[12] which Link replies to by asking how Gesane is. He has nothing to complain about in his life,[13] but then he reveals that he saw a Frost Talus when he went on a walk earlier.[14] He clarifies that it is a giant monster made of enchanted Ice,[15] and he thought it was both incredible and terrifying.[16] He thinks he saw it in Coldsnap Hollow, but he ended up fleeing very quickly.[17] Despite its size, Gesane believes a Champion could take it down easily.[18] This begins the "Face the Frost Talus" Side Quest.
When Link speaks to Gesane again, he can ask about the Frost Talus. Gesane explains that it is made of enchanted Ice,[19] and he says that Coldsnap Hollow should be avoided because of it.[20] Though he is good at fighting, Gesane would not want to face a Frost Talus.[21]
After Link has defeated the Frost Talus, he can return to Rito Village to share the news with Gesane.[22] He would not have thought that a Hylian could take down something of that size.[23] Ultimately, Gesane is relieved, since Rito Village could have been in danger if it had wandered towards the town.[24] As a reward, he gifts Link a Silver Rupee.[25]
When spoken to afterwards, Gesane is still very shocked that Link managed to defeat the Frost Talus.[26] However, the world is still full of other dangerous creatures, so he remains vigilant.[27]
Trivia
- Gesane is one of several characters that will hit Link back if he attacks them with a Weapon.[28][29][30] These attacks deal no damage.
