Pirates' Fortress (MM)
Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time, Link encounters Gerudo Thieves in the prison chambers of the Gerudo's Fortress. They are guarding the cells holding the four captive Carpenters, with one guarding each cell. They shortly reveal themselves as Link speaks with each Carpenter.
Gerudo Thieves are agile swordswomen. They are in constant motion as they combat Link, actively evading his attacks by backflipping and moving in to strike. They can also defend themselves by blocking Link's attacks with their scimitars. They are lastly also capable of performing a powerful, spinning Jump Attack by crouching down. Their regular attacks can all be blocked with a Shield, but their Jump Attacks cannot be shielded from. Unlike most enemies, Gerudo Thieves will not actively attempt to kill Link, but rather weaken him. If Link is struck repeatedly, or hit by their Jump Attack, he will collapse and be taken to a cell. The Gerudo Thief will then have to be found and fought again, with all of her health restored.
Gerudo Thieves are among some of the most resilient enemies in Ocarina of Time; nine slashes with the Master Sword will defeat them. Biggoron's Sword is more effective, felling them in only five strikes. They can be stunned using Deku Nuts or the Hookshot.
Once defeated, the Gerudo Thief will retreat, never to appear again, and drop a Small Key to their Carpenter's cell. After all four are defeated and every Carpenter rescued, a Gerudo will appear and commend Link on his abilities, inviting him into the Gerudo's territory.
In Majora's Mask, Pirates are encountered as enemies inside the Pirates' Fortress, guarding Lulu's stolen Zora Eggs. They are found in rooms whose doors are marked by a golden scimitar panel. They drop down when Link enters, locking him inside and engaging him in combat. There are three of them each, one wearing green, one orange, and one pink.
Gerudo Pirates have an identical attack strategy to the Gerudo Thieves from Ocarina of Time; they are agile fighters who actively evade Link's attacks and strike back in-between. They are also able to perform spinning Jump Attacks as well that cannot be blocked. Like the Gerudo Thieves of Ocarina of Time, they will not attempt to kill Link but merely weaken him. If Link is struck repeatedly or hit by their Jump Attack, he will be captured and thrown out of the Fortress. They can be fought using the Sword, Goron Link's punches, and Zora Link's fin slashes. As Deku Link, they can only be damaged by his Bubble Blast.
After they are defeated, they angrily concede defeat before escaping by throwing a flash bomb. Once defeated, the door to the chamber's aquarium opens, where one of the Zora Eggs are being held.
- "I have no idea where you come from, but you must have a lot of guts to make it past all the guards around here! All of my fellow carpenters are imprisoned somewhere in here. If you can get us out of here, we'll repay the favor somehow! But be careful! There're sure to be Gerudo guards somewhere around here... Woo! Watch out!" — A Carpenter (Ocarina of Time)
- "Halt! It takes courage to come thieving in the Pirates' Fortress! I'm going to love doing this to you!" — Pirate (Majora's Mask)
- "Ugh. Don't think it ends here!" — Pirate (Majora's Mask)
