"Seek Out Impa"

"Free the Divine Beasts" is a Main Quest in Breath of the Wild.[1]

Overview[]

After Link was placed into the Slumber of Restoration, Princess Zelda left a message with Impa intended for Link.[2] Impa refuses to pass along the message, however, unless Link is prepared to risk his own life.[3] She is unsure whether he would be able to bear such a burden without his Memories,[4] so she asks Link to let her know when he is ready to hear the message.[5]

When Link informs Impa that he is ready, she remarks that he is still as still as courageous as he was before his lost his Memories.[6] After recounting the history of Calamity Ganon,[7] she finally shares Zelda's message: "Free the four Divine Beast."[8]

At Link's confusion, Impa explains that the Divine Beast are the ancient Sheikah weapons that were piloted by the Champions.[9] They are Divine Beast Vah Rudania,[10] Divine Beast Vah Medoh,[11] Divine Beast Vah Ruta,[12] and Divine Beast Vah Naboris.[13] Impa believes it would be foolish for Link to face Ganon without them,[14] and so he must infiltrate the Divine Beast to reclaim them.[15]

For more information, Impa suggests he seek out the four races scattered across Hyrule Kingdom.[16] The Map on the Sheikah Slate opens, and four markers appear. Impa explains that these are his guides to find the races, whose leaders he must meet with.[17] This begins the Main Quest.[note 1]

To complete this Quest, Link must finish the following Main Quests:

After Link has calmed all four Divine Beast, he will hear the voice of Princess Zelda.[20] She states that he has not only reclaimed the Divine Beast, but freed the spirits of the Champions as well.[21] Now, she and the Champions are waiting for his confrontation with Calamity Ganon.[22]

Back in Kakariko Village, Link must inform Impa of his victory.[23] She is able to sense the presence of the fallen Champions,[24] recalling that she risked her life to fight alongside them all.[25] Back then, she was unable to protect them,[26] and so she has lived thinking that they all died in vain.[27] From their presence, Impa can tell they have yet to give up,[28] as well as the fact that they were overjoyed to see Link once again.[29]

Impa encourages Link and the Champions to serve their purpose.[30] While Calamity Ganon is weakened, Link must attack him and save Princess Zelda.[31] The Sheikah Slate opens again, this time showing a marker on Hyrule Castle. Even though he has the Divine Beast, Impa warns Link to be careful of Calamity Ganon's defenses.[32] With this, the Main Quest will be completed.
