The Street Merchant is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series.[2] In all of his appearances, he is a merchant who sells wares on the streets of a town, most commonly Kakariko Town.
Biography[]
A Link to the Past[]
The Street Merchant sits on a carpet directly west of the Weathercock in Kakariko Town. Link can buy a Bottle from him for 100 Rupees.[3]
If Link brings him a Fish from the Great Swamp, the Street Merchant will give him 21 Rupees, 10 Arrows, 8 Bombs and a Magical Decanter in exchange for it.[4] If Link brings him a Golden Bee, he will buy it for 100 Rupees.[5]
A Link Between Worlds[]
The Street Merchant appears in Kakariko Village in A Link Between Worlds, vending a Bottle and Hearts after Yuga seals Seres within a Painting. When Link first meets him, the Street Merchant tells him that he should be prepared for the troubling times.[6] After the Shady Guy has stolen the Smooth Gem from Oren and pawns it to the Street Merchant,[7] he will sell it for 200 Rupees.[8] If Link tries to purchase a Heart from the Street Merchant with full health, he will refuse to sell it to the young hero in order to save on Hearts.[9]

Tri Force Heroes[]
In Tri Force Heroes, the Street Merchant appears in the town of Hytopia, selling Materials at a stall across from Madame Couture's. He opens up shop after the Links have completed three Levels of the Drablands. The Materials he sells are typically very expensive, but his selection often includes rare Materials that are otherwise hard to come by. One Material, the Frilly Fabric, is exclusive to his shop.[10] The Street Merchant will restock every day, in real-time. The Street Merchant remarks that Link seems familiar, implying that he may be the same Street Merchant from Hyrule.[11]
The Street Merchant's stall ordinarily has five Materials for sale, including the Frilly Fabric. This selection is reduced to only three Materials if Link does not have SpotPass functionality enabled.[12]
Aside from selling Materials, the Street Merchant can also buy Materials from Link for one-fifth their cost. He will only buy Materials if Link speaks with him directly, by breaking the Jar to the right side of him. If the Street Merchant sees either the blue bird or the black ghost around town, he will buy Link's Materials at twice the price.[13] The Street Merchant will not purchase the Lady's Glasses, Collar, and Parasol from Link, as he finds items belonging to Lady Maud creepy.[14]
The Street Merchant also has a blue tent next to his stall. It is too dark to see inside, requiring Link to wear the Light Armor to take a look. Volume 7 of the Drablands Diary can be found inside the tent.
In the 2.0.0 update, the Street Merchant will begin to sell Friendly Tokens after the curse is lifted from Princess Styla.[15] He advises Link not to tell the Faux Hero of this, as the child gets on his nerves.[16]
In the 2.1.0 update, Link can present Hero Points to the Street Merchant for free Materials,[17] which are earned by completing Levels that Link did not initially vote for over multiplayer. The kind of Materials the Street Merchant will give will be the kind that Link still needs to complete unfinished Outfits. Through this, it is possible to receive the exclusive, gold-ranked Materials normally only received from King Tuft or the Coliseum. Friendly Tokens are not earned through this way. Once Link has obtained all Materials necessary to craft the remaining Outfits (excluding those requiring Friendly Tokens), the Street Merchant will no longer give free Materials.

- In Tri Force Heroes, even after the game is completed and Princess Styla's curse is lifted, the Street Merchant will still randomly claim to have seen the black ghost, and buy Link's Materials at twice their normal price.
