The Chamber of Sages is a location in Ocarina of Time[1] and A Link Between Worlds.

Features and Overview[]

The Chamber of Sages is where the Sages meet. Each Sage stands on a dais along the edge of the central platform, in the middle of which is a triangular space where Link stands when meeting with the Sages.

In Ocarina of Time, the chamber is filled with fountains, up from each of which a beam of light shines, except for the large one in the middle, which depicts the Triforce surrounded by the six Sage Medallions. Link stands in the empty space of the Triforce image while each Sage stands on the image of the Medallion they give to him.

In A Link Between Worlds, the chamber has been redesigned into an all-stone platform in a void illuminated by various auroras. Gone are the fountains in the background, and both the flowing water around the central platform, and the Triforce image in the middle, have been replaced with an ornate design with a lone triangle in the middle. It also features a seventh Sage's dais to the six in Ocarina of Time. Each dais contains a letter from the word "COURAGE" instead of a symbol of the Sage's element.

Ocarina of Time[]

After Link withdraws the Master Sword from the Pedestal of Time, his spirit is sealed away in the Chamber of Sages due to him being too young to bear the title of the "Hero of Time".[2] Since Link's action opened the gate to the Sacred Realm, Ganondorf took this opportunity to gain access to the Sacred Realm, eventually reaching the Temple of Light and taking the Triforce for himself.[3] While the Sacred Realm transformed into the Dark World,[4] Rauru used his powers to keep the Chamber of Sages intact.[5]

Seven years pass, and Rauru, the Sage of Light, awakens Link in the Chamber of Sages now that he is old enough to be considered the Hero of Time.[2] Rauru explains Link's fate and grants him the Light Medallion to add to his power, sending off the young hero to awaken the other five Sages so that they may add their might to Link and aid him on his quest to save Hyrule from Ganondorf's rule.[6]

Though Link is not able to visit the Temple of Light on his own, he is always warped to the Chamber of Sages every time he awakens a Sage. Here, the Sage bestows their powers to Link in form of a Medallion before returning to Hyrule again.

At the end of the game, after Link gives the final strike to Ganon and Princess Zelda calls upon the power of the Sages to seal Ganondorf away, Rauru and the other five Sages appear inside the Chamber of Sages to send the King of Evil into the void of the Evil Realm.[7]

A Link Between Worlds[]

The Chamber of Sages returns in A Link Between Worlds, albeit unnamed. As with Ocarina of Time before it, Link arrives here after rescuing a Sage within a dungeon, watches the rescued Sage emerge from a crystal, shares a short conversation with them, and promptly takes his leave to rescue the next one.

After all seven Sages are rescued, each one's dais raises a set height, staircases of light appear between them, and at the top, on a ninth platform directly above where Link stands, the Triforce of Courage manifests for Link to claim, having proven his courage by braving so many dungeons and rescuing the Sages.
