The Tail Key is an item in Link's Awakening.[2][note 1]

Location and Uses[]

Link's Awakening[]

The Tail Key is found in a Treasure Chest located in the Mysterious Woods. At first, Link can not access it, as the forest is looping over itself due to Tarin being transformed into a Raccoon.[4] Link must sprinkle Magic Powder on Tarin to return him to his human form, thus preventing the forest to loop and being able to access the Treasure Chest located to the north.[1]

Link can use it to open the Tail Cave's gate by inserting it into the Tale Keyhole.[2]

Other Appearances[]

Link's Awakening (Cagiva)[]

In the Link's Awakening manga by Ataru Cagiva, after arriving at the Mysterious Forest, Link finds that Tarin is been attacked by a Boarblin. After attacking it with a kick, the defeated Boarblin falls on a box, crushing it. Inside, they find the Tail Key. Link then uses the Key to open Tail Cave.

Nomenclature[]

The Japanese name of Moldorm, the Boss of the Tail Cave, is Degu Tail, which may explain the name of this item.

Notes

  1. The Tail Key is also referred to as the Tail Cave Key in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening — Nintendo Player's Guide by Nintendo of America.[3] However, as the in-game name takes precedence, it is not considered Canon.
