Face Shrine (Region)
Face Shrine is a region of Koholint Island from Link's Awakening. It contains two face shrines: one in the north, which serves as the game's sixth dungeon, and one in the south. Tektites, Bombers, and Armos patrol most of this area.
The eastern part of the region is where the Rapids Ride to the north ends. The waterfall from that region is the source of the river which runs through the north of the region. The only region directly accessible from the Face Shrine region is Ukuku Prairie, where the Face Shrine river joins the river from Kanalet Castle. However, there is a cave which links this region to Tal Tal Heights, where the Rapids Ride begins. To the south of the region are Animal Village and Yarna Desert, but they are blocked by cliffs and cannot be accessed.
When Link first arrives in the Face Shrine region, the Owl tells him to first head to the Southern Face Shrine, where he will learn the truth about Koholint Island and the Wind Fish. Inside the Southern Face Shrine is the Face Key, which is necessary to reveal the Northern Face Shrine. Link will only be able to obtain it after defeating the Armos Knight guarding it.
A set of stairs leading underground can be found by moving one of the Armos statues in the southern region. This will lead to a Secret Seashell or 20 Rupees if the Level 2 Sword has already been obtained.
