"EX Champion Mipha's Song" is a Main Quest in Breath of the Wild.[citation needed] It is part of The Champions' Ballad DLC Pack.[1]

Overview

Link can begin the Quest after finishing the trials of the Great Plateau during the Main Quest, "EX The Champions' Ballad". At this point, the One-Hit Obliterator will split into four glowing orbs and scatter to different areas of Hyrule, revealing four ancient structures called Monuments. One of the Monuments appears on Ja'Abu Ridge overhanging the south side of the East Reservoir Lake. As Link approaches the Monument, a voice belonging to an unspecified Monk speaks to him and instructs him to complete the Trials that he must face ahead.[2] Three maps then emerge on the Monument's pillars, each revealing the location of a Trial that Link must undergo. Kass, who is standing nearby, then notices Link and comments on the Monument as mentioned in his teacher's Unfinished Song.[3] Kass adds that there is a Verse in the song that mentions the Trials that the Zora Champion, Mipha overcame,[4] and sings Link the Verse, which provides him with instructions for completing all three Trials.[5] Kass then remarks that he hopes to complete the unfinished Key Verses of the song through his travels.[6][7]

Link may complete the Trials in any order. The marker for the first Trial guides Link to a cliff in the Akkala Highlands, overlooking Knuckel Island and Ankel Island. Here Link finds Muzu who reveals that Mipha's notes mention that the path of light should be followed when the sun is rising.[8] During the sunrise, a path of light, the sun's reflection on the water, leads to a ring in the Lanayru Sea. Going through this ring causes Kee Dafunia Shrine to rise from beneath the water. The second Trial involves defeating the Blue-Eyed Guardians,[9] three Guardian Skywatchers and one Guardian Turret, in Upland Zorana, which unearths Sato Koda Shrine. The third Trial tasks Link with following a path of rings from the western shore of Mikau Lake, up both of the Lake's waterfalls, across to Lulu Lake, up its waterfall, and finally to Ploymus Mountain, revealing Mah Eliya Shrine. Each of these Shrines rewards Link with a Ruta's Emblem upon their completion.[10] After completing all three Shrines, the Monk of the third Shrine he completes will instruct him to go to Divine Beast Vah Ruta.[11]

As Link approaches the Divine Beast, he is spoken to again by an unspecified Monk, who gives him a Trial in exchange for Ruta's three Emblems.[12] Link is then transported to the Illusory Realm, a realm created by his memories, where he once again battles Waterblight Ganon inside Ruta, but with a specific equipment set.[13] Link begins the fight equipped with the Lightscale Trident, a Silver Bow, 10 Arrows, and the Zora Set, with each piece of Armor being upgraded by a Great Fairy twice. He also has two Ceremonial Tridents, a Hyrule Bass, a Hylian Shroom, and one bunch of Fleet-Lotus Seeds in his Inventory. This Waterblight Ganon is a phantasm born from Link's memories and fears.[14] After defeating the phantasm, Link is transported back and finds Kass nearby. Kass informs him that learning about Mipha's tales has inspired him to write a Song to honor Mipha in his own way,[15] and sings the composition, entitled "Champion Mipha's Song"[16] to Link.[17] The Song allows Link to visualize the Champion Mipha's Song Recovered Memory from 100 years ago,[16] which shows how Princess Zelda sought Mipha's assistance in fighting Calamity Ganon. Content with the Verse, Kass realizes that the missing parts of his teacher's Unfinished Song can only be completed by him.[18] Mipha then speaks to Link in spirit and congratulates him for completing the Trials, telling him that Mipha's Grace will recharge much faster.[19] The ability is upgraded to Mipha's Grace +, which reduces the ability's recharge time to eight minutes, and the Quest is completed.
