"EX The Champions' Ballad"

EX Champion Daruk's Song is a Main Quest in Breath of the Wild. It is part of The Champions' Ballad DLC pack.[1]

Overview

Link can begin the Quest after finishing the trials of the Great Plateau during the Main Quest, "EX The Champions' Ballad". At this point, the One-Hit Obliterator will split into four glowing orbs and scatter to different areas of Hyrule, revealing four ancient structures called Monuments. One of the Monuments appears in the Eldin Canyon on a ledge overlooking the Golow River. As Link approaches the Monument, a voice belonging to an unspecified Monk speaks to him and instructs him to complete the Trials that he must face ahead.[2] Three maps then emerge on the Monument's pillars, each revealing the location of a Trial that Link must undergo within the Eldin Region. Kass, who is standing nearby, then notices Link and comments on the Monument as mentioned in his teacher's Unfinished Song.[3] Kass adds that there is a Verse in the song that mentions the Trials that the Goron Champion, Daruk overcame,[4] and sings Link the Verse, which provides him with instructions for completing all three Trials.[5] Kass then remarks that he hopes to complete the unfinished Key Verses of the song through his travels.[6][7]

Link may complete the Trials in any order. The first Trial involves defeating the Igneo Talus Titan at Lake Darman's shore, which reveals the Kamia Omuna Shrine. The second Trial has Link follow the rings of light that form around Death Mountain, and in doing so, unearths the Sharo Lun Shrine. Finally the third Trial tasks Link with safely falling into the ring over Darb Pond's lava, thereby revealing the Rinu Honika Shrine. Each of these Shrines rewards Link with a Rudania's Emblem upon their completion. After completing all three Shrines, the Monk of the third Shrine he completes will instruct him to go to the Divine Beast Vah Rudania.

As Link approaches the Divine Beast, he is spoken to again by an unspecified Monk, who gives him a Trial in exchange for Rudania's three Emblems.[8] Link is then transported to the Illusory Realm, a realm created by his memories, where he once again battles Fireblight Ganon on Rudania, but with a specific equipment set.[9] Link begins the fight equipped with the Boulder Breaker, a Knight's Bow, 5 Ice Arrows, and the Flamebreaker Set. He also has a Seared Steak, a Toasty Ironshroom, and a Baked Apple in his Inventory. This Fireblight Ganon is a phantom born from Link's memories and fears.[10] After defeating the phantom, Link is transported back and finds Kass nearby. Kass informs him that learning about Daruk's tales has inspired him to write his own Verse,[11] and sings it to Link.[12] The Song allows Link to visualize the Champion Daruk's Song Recovered Memory from 100 years ago,[13] which shows how Princess Zelda sought Daruk's assistance in fighting Calamity Ganon. Content with the Verse, Kass then remarks how Hyrule Castle would make a suitable setting should his teacher's song be completed.[14] Daruk than speaks to Link in spirit and congratulates him for completing the Trials, telling him that he can now use Daruk's Protection more frequently.[15] The ability is upgraded to Daruk's Protection +, which reduces the ability's recharge time to six minutes. After receiving the upgrade, the Quest is completed.

3 The scattered One-Hit Obliterator led you to a location where a stone monument with a map of trials appeared. Kass's song seems related...

4 You completed the three trials inscribed on the stone monument in the Eldin region.

After you collected three of Rudania's Emblems, the monk told you to head to the Divine Beast. What awaits you there?

Go to the Divine Beast Vah Rudania to find out.
5 You defeated the phantom of Fireblight Ganon, which was born from your own memories and fears.

Kass's composition, entitled Champion Daruk's Song, was so true and moving that it allowed you to visualize a memory from 100 years ago.

By conquering the trial, your sacred power has increased and Daruk's Protection has become more efficient than ever.

  1. Although the Adventure Log description denotes the location as the Eldin Mountains, the Quest is actually received in the Eldin Canyon.
