Desert Palace (A Link Between Worlds)

The Desert Palace is the final Hyrulean dungeon in A Link Between Worlds, and must be accessed with the Sand Rod. It also contains the Titan's Mitt, which, in addition to the Sand Rod, is required to complete the dungeon. Although the Palace is located in Hyrule, its boss, Zaganaga, is fought in a small, enclosed area of Lorule.
Entrance to the Palace
Despite being a dungeon in which one of the Seven Sages is imprisoned, the Palace, with the exception of its boss and sage, is located not in Lorule as with the other six sages' dungeons but in the same area of Hyrule as it was in A Link to the Past. Due to the fact that the Sand Rod is required, this dungeon cannot be done first, as Osfala, who rented the rod from Ravio, must be rescued from the Thieves' Hideout beforehand. The Sand Rod is used to reach the Palace, and the temple itself serves as a passageway to the area of Lorule containing the boss and Sage Irene's portrait.
Many of the rooms are filled with sand. The Sand Rod is required in order to create pathways for Link to cross, whether on foot or via the ability to become a drawing. There are also numerous sand-based puzzles, like elevating a Beamos with the Sand Rod so its beams can hit switches, and filling a room with sand in order to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. This dungeon contains the Titan's Mitt and the Stamina Scroll, which are the only two dungeon items in the game used for navigation, as the Titan's Mitt enables Link to lift large boulders that block doors and entrances. The Stamina Scroll, while helpful, is not essential to complete the dungeon. The Sub-Boss of the dungeon is a pair of Devalants, which later on in the dungeon become regular enemies. Like in A Link to the Past, Link must exit the dungeon and re-enter it at two separate points: once to reach the second part of the dungeon, and a second time to enter a crack leading to Lorule, where the boss of the dungeon, Zaganaga, lurks. Here, Link must use the Sand Rod to create platforms leading to the boss; upon defeat, Link receives a Heart Container and rescues the sage Irene.
The Compass is in the northwestern first floor room in an easily accessible chest. The Big Key is on a platform in the central eastern room on the second floor. It cannot be immediately accessed; Link must first raise the sand level in the room to the north, then return and use the Sand Rod to get to the chest.
The Titan's Mitt is in the central northern room of the first floor. To access it, Link must pull a lever on the west side of the room to raise the sand level. He must then press a switch on the north platform of the room to open the wall around the chest. Then, using a combination of the Sand Rod and wall merging to get behind the sand waterfall, he can access the Mitt.
- Despite its location in Hyrule, the Desert Palace is treated in most respects like a Lorulean dungeon. For example, the Desert Palace is the only Hyrulean dungeon that has its own theme music, whereas the others have the Hyrule dungeon theme.
