Some Timeline Trouble[]
The category description mentions both The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. I've got a couple issues with that.
First, the reference to A Link to the Past. If you ask me, the sprites in the game clearly have pointed ears. It's possible that could have just been graphical limitations, but I believe it was done on purpose. In addition, in calling the people of A Link to the Past "Hyrulean" we are assuming that A Link to the Past must happen before the flood. We have no definitive timeline and I happen to agree with a timeline some would call a "late TWW theory". In other words, I don't agree with the idea that A Link to the Past happens after the flood. The placement of these games is still in debate (especially since the release of Twilight Princess) and I think the references should be removed.
Next, The Wind Waker. The description claims the Hylia went extinct. Now, maybe it's just me, but I seem to recall four girls in The Wind Waker who had pointy ears (two of them being Aryll and Tetra). In addition, Link has pointed ears and I'm willing to bet his grandmother did too. Extinct means there are no more and I think it's obvious that while they are greatly outnumbered, they do still exist after the flood. --Yumil 10:27, 29 January 2007 (CST)
- Coupla things;
- The term "Hyrulian" can be applied to any sentient being in the Kingdom of Hyrule. It is not a description of race. Consider that a "Canadian" may be Caucasian, East Asian, Indian, Aboriginal, Latin, etc. and still be a Canadian. In the same way, a "Hyrulian" may be Gerudo, Goron, Zora, Hylain, Deku, etc. and still by Hyrulian.
- The Hylia People/Hylains had died out before ALttP, regardless of your timeline. The game text states that the race has vanished. Pointy ears do not a Hylian make. That is never stated. All Hylians hae pointy ears, but that doesn't mean that all Non-Hylains have rounded ears. --PIE
- So, what you are saying here then, is that "Hyruleans" is synonomous with "People"? Doesn't that render this catagory an unneccessary duplicate? Also I would like to query the spelling; is there a difference between "Hyrulian" and "Hyrulean"?--PsioniC 21:59, 1 September 2007 (EDT)
- Actually, Hyrulean IS different than "People"- "People" refers to anyone- including, say, a person from Labrynna- whereas Hyrulean refers only to those people who live in the kingdom of Hyrule itself. On that note, shouldn't Zelda be in this category, as well as Link, who is, more often than not, a resident of Hyrule? Dinosaur bob 16:16, 5 October 2007 (EDT)

- I think they should probably stay separate in Deities, I think it would be stretching it a bit to class them directly as "people". The Deities category is a subcategory of people anyway. --Adam 17:57, 5 October 2007 (EDT)
- Yet another question- considering we have Hyrulean and Terminan categories, should we have Labrynnan, Holodrumian, Koholintian, etc. categories as well? We should try to stay consistent. - Before we do that, I would like to check if there are any official uses of those terms. I know Hyrulean appears on Zelda.com, and I'm sure I've seen Terminan written elsewhere, but I would be hesitant to create a category called Koholintian since it only Googles 6 results worldwide!! (plus Koholint does't even exist...) Might be best to use this format that I set up for the Characters in The Wind Waker, which shows all the residents of The Great Sea without needing another category; I think we have enough people-type categories as it is :) --Adam 02:02, 6 October 2007 (EDT)
